The Lighter Side / General game certificates c1850
« on: Wednesday 18 July 18 07:03 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone any idea on what sort of hunting would be covered by these certificates? I think they were either introduced or amended around 1839 in England. They cost 4 pounds and 10 pence each with an additional duty of 10% and names of the holders were listed in newspapers.
I have found a distant relative who held one in 1847, 1854 and 1856.

England / Contested will in c1913
« on: Wednesday 11 April 18 07:18 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help with where I can find information on the above - it was listed for the Chancery Division in the Pall Mall Gazette in April and November of that year but that is the only mention (Kipping v Kipping).

The Lighter Side / Find my past - Global tree
« on: Friday 09 March 18 01:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone
I  have been looking at the new thing on the Find my past site. At present, you can search names and it will show you some trees showing same or similar people.
I picked 6 people on my extended tree where I  have questions and guess what - on 5 of the corresponding trees, I have a discrepancy with what is shown. There is no title on the tree and no way of contacting the owner, maybe that comes later.
I haven't found a way of putting my tree there either and there is scant information on it as well.

England / Rebecca Wilhemina Warren b1863 Scotland, 1871 in West Derby, Lancashire
« on: Sunday 04 February 18 00:30 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out where Rebecca went to after the 1871 Census. Her parents, William Fenner Warren and Margaret Russell, took the rest of the family to New York.
She may have married but I haven't been able to find any reference to one and I have had no luck with 1881 either.
Any ideas would be very welcome.

« on: Monday 06 November 17 06:46 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help with these occupations. The refiner is possibility involved in melting down old metal (silver?). I have looked at the old occupation site but nothing under refiner, silver, sweepwasher.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Odd occupation
« on: Thursday 15 June 17 06:10 BST (UK)  »
I have come across an Ann Maria Bellati b1831 in the 1851 Census resident in Saffron Hill who lists her occupation as Blond worker. Any ideas? I have looked at the original and it does appear that the transcription is correct.
Her husband, Santino b1823 is a Cage maker (for birds is noted on the 1861 Census) but Ann's occupation is not listed then.
I am stumped.

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Little Saffron Hill, Holborn
« on: Thursday 15 June 17 00:03 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in photos or drawings of the above area in Holborn, particularly of St Peters Terrace around 1881 - 1891 era. I have found a couple of the City Arms, 5 St Peters Terrace, c1910 which are great but I am after something a little earlier.

The Lighter Side / Another strange occupation
« on: Saturday 08 April 17 22:16 BST (UK)  »
In the 1901 census have come across Anthony Snow b1862 living in Swindon - occupation has been transcribed as 'Howling contractor'. There is a rather large cross over the first letter so it isn't clear.
Did Census night occur on a full moon?

I am having a problem with Windows 10. Until 2 weeks ago, it was fine. Then, I kept getting 'unable to sign in to your normal Microsoft account. Sign off, re sign in and this may solve problem'. Well, it hasn't. I have lost some of my photos, documents history and have to start up some things (Skype for one) each time I turn the contraption on.
I also know of several people having similar problems.
Any suggestions? Please bear in mind that I am not technically minded so please keep it simple.
