Does it say who married them?    That might help clarify matters.

Has the marriages from 1863 to 1877

Mary married twice secondly to William Day Murphy and died in Youghal .

Mary's first husband was Michael John Staunton.   He was a widower.

Ireland / Re: Catholic Parish Records to go online in the Summer

Isn't it wonderful!

We'd always assumed that an ancestor who was born in Ireland was Protestant, but then I realised that his sisters, who all remained in Ireland, had Catholic marriages.   I struck it lucky with the parish I started with in the city he was from (I didn't know which parish)....picked a year a couple of years before we think he was born (1790s) and on the 3rd page I found his brother, and a cousin of some sort.  I've since found one sister and another brother.   There's several more to find as we know there were at least 7 (no 7 was called Septimus).

I'm sure than one of the godparents I've found was not Catholic though.   That would be unusual wouldn't it?

Thank you Rosie and flst.  Next to his name at the far right is the number 148, which I presume is a plot number.   There isn't a plot number next to her record.

The record is a list, in date order, of burials in the year they died (his includes 1917).

I haven't found baptisms of any of the children in this family (but I have for the cousins).

Thank you bookbox.

I've been looking for this family on the 1851 census for a while and I've finally found the family in Westminster by searching just on the girl's name which confirms that the 8yr old girl and the little boy were siblings.  It seems a shame they're not buried together, but when she died I suppose they were hoping not to lose another child, especially not as soon as the following week.

The enumerator must have been hard of hearing or something - has the parent's ages incorrect, has the mother recorded under her middle name and not first name - and says she was born in Somerset when every other census says Middlesex.

Thank you for that.  So, there might be a headstone perhaps.

I wasn't certain I had the correct John Moir, as his age in the burial record doesn't agree with census records over the decades, and it says he died at Daisy Cottage, but having just found his Death Notice in a newspaper there are enough details that confirm it is him (joiner, formerly of Crossroads).   If there was a headstone then I might have been able to match them up (assuming they were buried together - I hope so).

The newspapers have been excellent - not quite four weddings and a funeral, but two weddings, a funeral, an accidental shooting and the purchase of a threshing machine.  There's mention of a farm tenancy at Funiach changing hands that might be him (as that's where the two weddings were).
