Lancashire / Gertrude 'Muriel' Jowitt, Rev. Charles Raw Thomas, Percy Brook
« on: Monday 04 October 10 20:02 BST (UK)  »
I continue to search for info on descendants of:

Gertrude Eveleigh Muriel Jowitt, perhaps known as Muriel (b.1878 in Levenshulme) - can't find marriage or death record for her

Rev. Charles Raw Thomas (1873-1941) + his wife Hilda Jowitt (b. Chorlton cum Hardy 1885-aft. 1941)

Percy Brook (b. 1880) + his wife Ethel Mary Jowitt (b. Chorlton cum Hardy1883) - they did have at least one child Phyllis E. M. Brook, b.1908 but I have nothing after that.

Any leads would be SO greatly appreciated!!

In the 1851 census records, a Joseph Wrightson (b. ca 1838 in Ripon) is living with William & Elizabeth (Kidson) Walker in Langthorpe and is listed as a nephew. I would appreciate any info which would show me whose son he is and how that makes him a nephew.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Eveleigh + Jowitt

I am accompanying a dear friend to England (from eastern Canada) in less that 2 weeks. She is 90 and very well but we must be realistic about what can be accomplished in the short time we will have in the Manchester area. We will not have time to do much research but would love so much to find out if her grandmother's family is buried in Prestwich where they once lived. I have looked up the microfilm numbers, especially for burials, and am wondering if anyone might be working with the same ones who could do some checking for us?

Given that the burials are indexed, hopefully it wouldn't be too big an effort:

Burial Index-1695-1918- MFPR 1084
Burial Index-1918-1939- MFPR 1085

We are looking in particular for Samuel Birchall Eveleigh (d. 1880)
his wife Sarah Maria Eveleigh (d. 1906)
their daughters
Gertrude (Eveleigh) Jowitt (d.1878)
Eliza Maria (Eveleigh) Walker (d. ca 1932)

Naturally we would be delighted to have birth, baptism or marriage info details too but we do have some of those dates. I am not sure if there might be records noting which burials have gravestones but should these be available we would be delighted!! This family lived in Prestwich and then in later years in Chorlton cum Hardy.

Thanks in advance should anyone be able to help us!!

Lancashire / Prestwich - Church?
« on: Saturday 02 October 10 19:44 BST (UK)  »
I have some marriage info, 1877, which says it took place in St. Mary, Prestwich. As I am in Canada and not familiar with this area, would anyone know if this is the name of a church or of a district?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

London and Middlesex / What would be likely re burial in 1890?
« on: Sunday 12 September 10 01:45 BST (UK)  »
In 1890 George Walker of Streatham died at the age of 42 due to an influenza epidemic leaving a wife and 5 young children; he was a wine merchant. His family of origin lived in Yorkshire and his wife's in Lancashire. We are trying to determine where it was likely he was buried given all these details. Was there a usual procedure then?

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Skillings-Chapman
« on: Wednesday 19 March 08 14:06 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking info on the descendants of 'Harry' (Henry Michael) Chapman and wife Alice, nee Skillings, who were living in Kensington, London, in the early 1900's. Harry was from Ireland and in checking the marriage records (Free BMD) it would appear that Alice was Alice Maud who was likely the daughter of Thomas Skillings of Norfolk.

Family History Beginners Board / Where to look after 1901
« on: Friday 07 March 08 15:48 GMT (UK)  »
We are coming to England this year and are wondering where to look to trace ancestors after 1901...i.e. coming forward to the present day? If we know where they once lived but then don't know where they moved, how can we find out?
