Staffordshire / George Walker - Leek - 1912 Directory
« on: Thursday 06 March 08 16:22 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking information on a George Walker, b. 1848, originally of North Yorkshire, wine merchant. The information below has been kindly passed along to me and I am wondering how I might find out more about the George mentioned in the directory?
It is vitally important as our George seems to totally disappear in both the 1891 and 1901 census records, as does his wife Eliza Maria (nee Eveleigh). Their 5 children, born between 1880 and 1889, all go to live with their maternal grandmother with no trace of their parents.
Any help greatly appreciated!!

Lancashire / Missing Daughter of Samuel Eveleigh, Hat Manufacturer
« on: Thursday 06 March 08 01:37 GMT (UK)  »
Desperately seeking info on what happened to the older daughter of Samuel & Sarah (Fennell) Eveleigh. Eliza Maria Eveleigh, born in Manchester in 1854, married George Walker of Yorkshire in 1879, had five children born in Wandsworth between 1880 & 1889, and then both George and Eliza disappear; their five children live from then on with Sarah Eveleigh or at boarding schools. Word came of the death of Eliza in the late 1920's or early 1930's but WHERE was she from 1890 until her death?
Sarah Eveleigh lived until 1906 and died in Chorlton cum Hardy. Any info very greatly appreciated as Eliza's granddaughter is still living and would love to have these missing pieces to her family history.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Walker-Eveleigh disappearance
« on: Saturday 01 March 08 22:10 GMT (UK)  »
Walker family of Wandsworth. We are totally baffled. My friend's grandparents seem to disappear from all records sometime around 1890 and don't reappear even though the grandmother lived until around 1930; no idea where she was living when she died or of the death date or location of the grandfather. They had five children who wound up with their maternal grandmother and then were off to boarding schools as soon as they were old enough. WHERE were the parents of these children in 1891 and 1901 - any ideas?? Have tried every method I can think of to find them in the census records but to no avail. Can't find any deaths recorded that seem to match.
We are looking for:
George Walker, b. 1848 in Topcliffe, Yorkshire
and his wife
Eliza Maria (Eveleigh) Walker, b. 1854 in Manchester, Lancashire
George was listed as a wine merchant in the 1881 census. We have a professionally done photo of George, his wife and all five children taken in 1889 or 1890 so they were all together then.
PLEASE help - this is very important to my friend as her father was one of the five children.  Any suggestions???
