Hi Ozchick,
well it is not me who is listed in the book, it is my husband's family, but on page 28, Mary Stewart marries George Gilbert Hatwell, hy husband is the grandson of them, living down the road from where Agnes and John Roger settled in WA.  What about you?

Thanks for that info emjay, that is helpful.  Your Jane certainly looks like my Agnes' big sister, Ozchick.  The book that you have, Ozchick, is that the one that Nancy Jones and Vicki Geary put together, I have it too.  I would be interested in any information that you have.  Are you in Western Australia too?
regards

Thanks Philip, that does get me a bit further.  Yes, it appears that in 1881 both the girls are using their middle names,as Sarah appears as Ellen in that census.  I thought that the Sarah who died in 1902 might be ours, and sent for the certificate, but the husband's name is wrong and the address doesnt tally with the 1901 census, they were living in Savoy Street Savoy then -- I gather it doesnt exist anymore.  Thank you, there are a lot more Rouses than I imagined!

I am hunting Sarah Ellen Rouse, who married my great grandfather Frederick Guy on Christmas Day 1884 in Marylebone.  In 1891 they are living in London under the name Guy, but by 1901 they are living in Savoy Street under the name Rouse -- the whole family.  In 1904 Frederick has "married" Rachel Spinks and has the first of 4 children (also called Rouse) that they had.  But we can't find any record of Sarah's death between 1901 and 1904.  She didn't go back to Stoke by Nayland, where her grandparents had lived, she doesnt seem to be buried there.  I wonder what happened to her sister Louisa Sophia Rouse (born c. 1855).  There is a Sarah Guy in the death index for 1906 in Uckfield, Sussex.  The age is right.  I am wondering if she went to Louisa (did Louisa marry?) or if Hannah and Henry (her parents) are in Sussex.  If someone is interested, could they possibly do a couple of lookups for me. Sorry it is a long story.

I am looking for my great grandmother, Sarah Ellen Rouse.  Although she married my great grandfather, Frederick Guy, in the 1901 census they are under the name of Rouse, and they seemed to use either.  By 1904 Frederick is having children with another woman (can't find a marriage record) but Sarah doesnt seem to have died, either named Rouse or Guy.  My mother seems to think she went back to her family -- they farmed in Stoke by Nayland, and there are a lot of them buried at St Mary's there.  I wonder if she is there, and if anyone nearby could have a look for her.  Thanks enormously

Thanks Cardiff, I am not giving up, just thought there might be a chance someone knew some trick!  We live in hope, hey?  Have nanna's marriage certificate, but my mum says she put her age up so she didnt need permission.  As we talk about it my mum remembers a bit more about Katherine, so we are making slow progress
thanks again

Thanks Cardiff, I did look for Katherine in the 1901 census, but had no luck finding her.  I am not sure where she would have been though.  Her oldest child (my grandmother) was born in 1908 around the Herts/Cambridge/Essex area -- as far as we can tell her birth was never registered and where she was born depends on who you ask. Can't find any record of her marriage, but have been relying on freebmd and havent managed to get to the indexes yet. She is a mystery woman, but hopefully not for ever.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / William Probert born Cardiff c.1855

Family story says my great grandmother, Katherine Margaret Probert, was born on a boat going to India in 1881, and her mother (name unknown) died in childbirth.  Katherine's father, William Probert, was a chef on the boat and was born in Cardiff.  Katherine died in 1962 in Hertfordshire where she had raised her children.  She may have been married to a man called Charles Price or Charles Grey, but later married a Mr Andrews.  Katherine was a bit of a mystery woman, and William Proberts abound in Wales.  I have looked where I can think of, can anyone please offer some suggestions.
thanks
Diane
