Breconshire Lookup Requests / Mystery marriage
« on: Saturday 11 February 06 11:56 GMT (UK)  »
Dear all,
I am trying to locate a Marriage between my  G G Grandmother and someone with the surname George.
They had a daughter, Martha George in c1875 in Breconshire.
My G G Grandmother remarried c. 1878 to a David Allen, and  I dont have her maiden name as a result of this, and the maiden names not being put on registers.
All I know is she would have become Mary George, and I am assuming her husband died between Martha's birth and 1878.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Can I just ask, would she have been allowed to use Polly on her marriage cert then?
Or would she have had to use Pauline?

Thanks to you both for the info.
However, the Polly I found marrying my g g grandfather, was infact not the same Polly born in 1893, an error on my part, as I had found her birth, but failed to notice, the same person died in her first month.
Back to the drawing board!
Although what was said about Polly being a nickname for Mary has intrigued me, as the Polly Lowther I found marrying my grandfather, can not be found anywhere.
I have checked census info, BMD info, and can find nothing.
I wonder if she was a Mary.
I will definately have to investigate this!!

Regards,

Col

Hi all,.

I have found the birth for my g, g, grandmother Polly Lowther in 1893, in Stokesley, North Yorkshire.
I have also found her Marriage to my g, g, grandfather JOhn Newby Stephenson.
This was in 1904.
Now i aint brill at maths, but even I know she was only 11 at the time!! Nearly 12.
Was this legal..surely not, how did they get to marry when she was so young??
Also I can not locate either of them in the census for 1901.
They married in Easington, County Durham in Dec 1904.
Can anyone help.

Colleen
