Canada / Isabella/Mary Morrell
« on: Wednesday 21 October 15 14:34 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on an Isabella/Mary MORRELL(b.around 1844)who married Robert BECK August 13,1866 in Weldford Parish,Kent Co.,New Brunswick. Isabella's place of birth in the 1871 census(one of the only sources I could find on her)is listed as PEI but according to PANB she is from Weldford, which leads me to believe either her parents or grandparents were actually Islanders. Isabella died in 1872 after the birth of the couple's youngest child,Elizabeth Louise(1872-1949)who married Edward WHEATON of Sackville in 1896. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this, because I could literally count on one hand the number of sources that contain info on Isabella.

Can you not e-mail them to see if they have further info  ?

Sandra

I could but in all likelihood they'd probably insist on my visiting in person. I'll try it anyway.-Sarah

History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield, Vol. I

Elizabeth (widow of Peter Johnson) married John Fossecar - "he was at New London 1648 ; rem to Fairfield, where he bought land from Edward Adams, recorded 29 May 1656 and sold to Giles Smith before 6 November 1658  - married Elizabeth (widow of Peter Johnson)"

Unfortunately I'm in Canada so I'm not able to go to the Fairfield Museum in person.(Peter's descendants emigrated to New Brunswick likely as Loyalists)I will see if there's any research I can find on the website, however. I have been able to find information on Ebenezer more easily, especially his grave. Thanks for your help in this matter,I'll have to keep plugging away and see what I can find.-Sarah

I am trying to find information on Peter JOHNSON(c.1615-c.1650). He lived in Boston,Massachusetts until about 1638 when he sold his land and moved to Connecticut where he died. His wife was Elizabeth(I believe the surname to be COOKE)and one of their sons was Colonel Ebenezer JOHNSON. Ebenezer was buried in Derby,New Haven but I am unsure if his parents died in New Haven County or Fairfield County. Peter was apparently also called a Dutchman, but as to whether or not he really was Dutch,I can't find. Could someone help me with this?

Why would they round the ages to 5??It explains why the ages are marked the way they are in the census but it confuses me as to why they would do it in the first place.

Good morning,

I am wondering if you have seen this: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CAN-NB-KENT/2012-11/1352060234?

I have indeed seen it-in fact it was quoted in response to a post that I had created on Ancestry-but it didn't really help me all that much.

The Polebrooke registers (with a few gaps) have been transcribed and are available free-to-view (along with many other parishes in the country) on the FreeREG website at www.freereg.org.uk.

Pennie

Oh good,I'll check those out.

I think I may have moved forward here. I went into Familysearch to look for additional information. According to the 1841 census John was 70 years old and living in Polebrook. If we were to assume the age was correct, that would put his birth around 1770. However, his son Francis was also listed in the same census with a year of birth being 1791,but as he was baptized in 1787 this of course isn't. I don't believe John was born in Warmington as it seems that the family generally seemed to stay in or around the areas where they were born(the exception being for Francis's son John who was born in Oundle and moved to Lincolnshire when he married his wife Harriet-this was just before they came to Canada). I would say, without too much more doubt, that John's parents were Henry and Elizabeth.

Unfortunately the dates are quite early for Irish records (no civil registration, census, etc.) so you are more likely to find details of the family in New Brunswick records. Have you done any research at PANB to see if there are any records of the Knox family there? they've also a great online resources section which include newspaper articles. Also, don't forget to check with other descendants to see if they've any information like family Bible or stories.
Have a look at this topic on tracing Irish ancestors- www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=498742.0

PANB is my main site for that kind of thing, however even there records are limited. And sadly, anyone who would have had knowledge died long before I started my research,so I'm kind of screwed there. PANB is where I had found Ellen's death notice, and there are some records on Knox descendants but not from the time of immigration in 1828.

I am sure it is Ture, that's how I've seen it spelled;one source is the book containing the Cedar Hill Cemetery transcriptions. I'll take a look around the site and see if I can find anything.
