Hi

Does anyone know what information is actually available in the above Parish Records?

Being some distance from Wiltshire, I have paid a number of subscriptions to a number of genealogy resources (inc. Genealogist, ancestry and origins) for access to their Parish records to research the Woodman family.  While some information is given, I have been a little disappointed with what they do have available.

I note that one can purchase transcripts of the Registers from Genfair and just wondered whether it would be worth it, or whether they would contain only the same as those already seen.

Can anyone out there help?

With thanks

H

Cheshire / Is anyone missing an Armitage?
« on: Tuesday 11 April 06 16:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I found my ancestor John Armitage (Jnr), who was born in Warrington in around 1817/1818 with the help of Rootschat some while ago.

Since then, I have tried without success to trace the family back further and would appreciate any help with finding the birth/marriage records for a John Armitage/Armytage and his wife Margaret, both of whom would have been born around 1795 or so.

John Armitage (Jnr) married Ellen Heyes (or Hayes) on 29 September 1839 in Warrington and his marriage certificate shows his father was a Sexton also named John Armitage.

Birth record checks show a John Armytage was born on 03 October 1817 in Warrington to a John and Margaret Armytage of Bridge Street, Warrington.

Death records for St Pauls Warrington show that a John Armitage of Mersey Street, Warrington died on 18 November 1837 and a Margaret (Peggy) Armitage also of Mersey Street died on 13 July 1838.

However, I can find no record of the birth of John senior or his marriage to Margaret  It may be that they were born/married outside of Warrington or Lancashire so I would be grateful for any help.

Wiltshire / Re: help please - what is lidalmer/p lidalimor G. ?

Thank you for that, it's really helpful.  I have had previous problems with the Wiltshire dialect in my family research with the pronunciation of Ezra - that often comes out as Israel and it's confusing.  All those westcountry burrs....

Wiltshire / help please - what is lidalmer/p lidalimor G. ?
« on: Friday 20 January 06 19:40 GMT (UK)  »
In searching for Woodman family records, I have found two references, which I would appreciate help understanding.

There are two entries in the Witshire Marriage Registers dated 1561 - 1812 and 1591-1812.

The first relates to the marriage of Jacob Woodman to Marie Benett at Grittleton on 22/06/1654 and refers to 'p lidalmor G.' in vital info, while the other relates to the marriage of Sybilla Woodman to Jacob Milner in Feb 1743/44 at Yatton Keynell and refers to 'lidalemer'.

Is this a place? A person? Can anyone help?

Many thanks
J

Wiltshire / Woodman family of Wiltshire, Yorkshire and London
« on: Thursday 27 October 05 17:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I would appreciate help to solve a family puzzle.

Frank Edwin Woodman was born on 18 December 1882 in Even Swindon to Israel Woodman and Mary, formerly Morgan.

Census and BMD checks show no relevant Israel Morgan.  However, BMD checks reveal:
The birth of an Ezra Woodman on 08/11/1848 in Somerford, Wiltshire to Jesse and Louisa, formerly Knapp.
The marriage of Ezra Woodman to Mary Morgan on 06/04/1872 in The Parish Church in Oxenhope, Keighley, Yorkshire.

It is possible that Ezra was misheard for Israel if spoken in a broad Wiltshire accent and Jesse's brother Isaac was living in Haworth with his family at the time.

Census details for the family show:
1861
Jesse b 1821 (Head), Louisa (wife), Frederick, Dorcas, Ezra, John Sealy, Charles, Naomi Ann, and Henry Augustin living at the post office in Somerford Parva, Wiltshire.

1871
a/a + David and Edward.

1881
Ezra and Mary living at The Old Inn Public House in Minety, Wiltshire with Albert H (b 1873 Keighley), Jesse (b 1876 Swindon), Violetta E (b 1877 Minety), Florence E (b 1880 Minety).

I891
Jesse & Louisa are still at the PO, Little Somerford.

However, Ezra, Mary (Morgan) Albert H (18), Jesse (15), Violetta (14), Florence (11) and Frank Edwin (9) cannot be found.

1901
Still no Frank Edwin.

There is a death record for Ezra in Kensington Workhouse Infirmary, Chelsea in 1890.  He had been living at 18 Blythe Place, Chelsea. There is also a record for a Mary Woodman's death in Kensington in 1886.

Jesse Woodman (1821) did have brothers and some of these went to London to work (all were builders/masons) but I cannot find Ezra's children with them. The question is, where did children, including a 9 year old go after their parents died and why aren't they on any census? Can anyone help?

Many thanks
H
