Midlothian / Re: DALRYMPLE - Midlothian

Many thanks for this, it is much appreciated.

If I have this right... George Dalrymple was born in France and Sarah was born Sarah Carick Fergus in Ireland around 1830.  I take it then that Thomson is her former married name and Fergus is her maiden name?

I am trying to prove or disprove a connection to an Earl of Stair, so yes, am also looking for information on George's parents along with Sarah's.

George and Sarah had 2 girls that I know of and they went to NZ with them.  I Agnes Sophia Weymss Dalrmyple and Emily Eliza Dalrymple.  I have been able to track the marriage of Sophia and her descendants.  I believe Emily remained a spinster, though I have yet to find record of her death too.

The name Weymss would also seem to be a popular name within the family.

In the meantime I am still trying to work backwards to connect them together.

Once again, many thanks.

Would someone be kind enough to do a marriage lookup for GEORGE SAMUEL WEYMSS DALRYMPLE and SARAH THOMPSON, 28 JAN 1850      Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland?

Being a Parish record I guess there is a chance I won't find much more information than what I already have, but felt it worth a try.

If anyone is able to... Thank you

Forgot to put his middle name in... he is William Anthony Howell though known as Anthony... which makes the reference even more valid.

Thank you... the marriage date fits to about when I believed they might be married.

I have William Howell born c1820 London, England and his wife Caroline Eliza Smith born c1822, Westminster, London.  Known children: William c1846, Alfred c1852, Jane, Alice, Elizabeth, Henry and Mary who was born c1865.  The 1881 census shows a granddaughter Daisy Alice P Howell aged 4 born Southwark.

I know nothing about the marriages of any with the exception of Mary who first married William Henry Phillips 1883 at St Saviour, Surrey.  They lived in Rotherhithe Surrey and had 2 girls.  Mary Jane Rosetta (Polly) Phillips 1884 and Ethel (no other names known) Phillips 1886.  William died and Mary Phillips nee Howell married Edward George Purchase.  They had 2 children, May Winifred Purchase 1890, St Olave's (Rotherhithe), Surrey and Eric Edward Purchase.

I have been able to find the descendants of Polly, however, Ethel has proved much harder.  Information on her is currently sparse.  I have no idea who she married, which doesn't help, though I know she had one child only, a daughter, Joyce.  It seems that her husband was a cinema worker and they lived in Saffron Waldon.  I had a chat with Polly's daughter in law once I had refound the family but she had forgotten many things and couldn't remember who Ethel had married though she remembered going to visit her in Saffron Waldon.

The family, Edward, his wife Mary and the 4 children were later found in Walthamstow, Essex.

I have a death certificate for Mary which shows her sister E. Evans as being present at the time of death.  I suspect that might be Elizabeth Howell.

Does any of this connect with other Howell families?

Isle of Man / KILLEY - fishermen, old story IOM
« on: Sunday 26 February 06 18:11 GMT (UK)  »
My father and his family used to tell me stories of the KILLEY background.  It seems that they were from the Isle of Man.  They used to intrigue me with a story of a family of brothers who were mostly drowned at sea and that we were the descendants of one of the younger members.  At some point they arrived in Lancashire and it seems some went to Lancaster.  The first Killey that I have a record of is Richard Killey who married Jane Griffith 1802 at Liverpool, Lancashire.  Their known children were John, Richard, Henry and William.  Family also made mention of Castletown.

John Killey was a widower when he married Margaret Gate/s at Lancaster in 1848.  Looking at the family naming pattern would think it possible that the father of Richard Killey who married in 1802 may well have been John.

Does this story seem familiar to other Killey family members?
