Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Death Record - Edwin Dunn
« on: Saturday 10 September 16 03:32 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for information, mainly death record, for my great great grandad, Edwin Dunn. He was born about 1850 in Staffordshire.

Married to Betsy Brooks in 1872. In the 1881 census he is listed as a Bucket Maker and liVing in Lye, Worcestershire. I cannot find him in the 1891 census.

My great grandad was George Dunn. Born 1884 in Wollescote, Worcestershire. In the 1891 census he is living as a visitor, not with his parents. His mother is listed as married but living with her mother and Edwin is not listed.

It was rumored that George was adopted but within the family. I haven't been able to figure that out yet until I order his birth certificate. George and his daughters had Alzheimers disease later on in their lives. I wonder if Edwin had the same and lived in a hospital and that is why Betsy is listed as a Widow.  I've read that sometimes people would list themselves as Widows or Widowers if they had been separated from their spouses.

I should mention that there was a rumour that George was adopted but within the family. Perhaps that's why he is a visitor to the Hyron family in 1891?

Also, George (and 2 of his children) had Alzheimers disease. Is it possible that Edwin had it and lived in a hospital? It's reaching but I'm at a dead end with him. I've read that sometimes people will list themselves as Widows or Widowers if they are separated from their spouses. Could that be the case?

In the 1901 and 1911 census, Betsy is listed as a Widow.

In 1915, George was married. He lists Edwin as his father and his occupation is a Master Iron Worker. Edwin is not listed as deceased on the certificate. Anytime I've had a certificate and the father is deceased it is written in brackets under his name.

I haven't been able to find a death record for Edwin at all. I was hoping someone would be able to help me out with it.

Warwickshire / Re: Hatton Asylum burials
« on: Saturday 10 September 16 03:00 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Don't mind me tagging along on this thread. My great grandad and great Nan lived and died at Hatton in the late 60s/early 70s. I live in Canada so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage for obtaining records. Does anyone know how I would find out where they were buried?

Would anyone who worked there have heard stories about my great grandad and great Nan?  They lived and died there in the late 60s and early 70s. George Dunn and Eugenie (Maggie) Dunn. Their daughter, Bessie Davis, quite possibly worked there. I'm unable to access many records because I live in Canada. George had alzheimers and Maggie might have too.

Also, does anyone know where they would have been buried? Was it customary for patients to be buried somewhere on the grounds?

I'm not sure if anyone is still reading this thread but I'm also looking for some information.

My great grandad died in a Warwick Asylum in 1972. He had dementia. His name was George Harry Dunn, born August 28th, 1884. His wife was Eugenie Maggie Dunn; I believe she went by Maggie. She died in 1970. I'm not sure when George was admitted. He had 3 children, Marjorie, Bessie and Noel. Noel was my grandad. He moved to Canada in 1956 so would have only visited George once or twice. Bessie apparently worked at the Asylum at one point.

I was hoping to find someone who may have worked there and possibly knew him. My grandad rarely talked about his family. I only met his sister Bessie once or twice. Any information I could get would be greatly appreciated.

The Common Room / Re: looking for Edwin Dunn

Hi everyone,

This is long overdue but I've finally found some information.\

I ordered Edwin Dunn and Betsy Brooks' marriage certificate. Edwin's father was Elijah Dunn. Betsy's father was Samuel Brooks.

I've recently found on another site more information on Edwin's family. The sources come from the 1861 Census.

Elijah Dunn b. about 1819 Stafford - occupation listed as Iron Labouror - d. about 1869 Worcestershire
married to Ann Westwood May 13, 1845 in Clent, Worcester

Ann Westwood b. about 1822 Lye, Worcester - occupation is listed as Nailor - d. unknown

Edwin had several siblings:
- Elizabeth b. 1846 or 1847
- Elias Timothy b. 1848
- Ann b. 1854
- Elijah b. 1856
- Matilda b. 1858
- Rowland b. 1860

I still haven't been able to find anything on Edwin's death. On the 1871 Census he's listed as a Bucket Maker but on his son's marriage certificate he's listed as a Master Iron Worker and not listed as deceased (1915). It might have been overlooked but I'm not sure if they would have overlooked something like that. Maybe it didn't matter.

Family History Beginners Board / Ernest Robert Jennings Perry 1876-1932
« on: Saturday 02 January 16 23:58 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone had information or pictures of Ernest Robert Jennings Perry. He was born about 1876 in Sussex or possibly Yorkshire. According to Ancestry records he was born in Sussex and according to family member he was a Yorkshire man.

He married Ada Maynard in 1900 and had several children: Lilian, Ivy (my great grandmother), Gertrude, Violet, Ernest, Rose, and possibly a George who died quite young.

According to Ancestry, he was in the military in 1911. His daughter, Ivy, married a military man, Archibald Joseph Gough, and they may have been in the same regiment, Royal Warwickshire Regiment.

His parents were possibly Joseph Perry and Elizabeth Jennings.

He died in 1932 in Warwick. A relative said he died of throat cancer.

World War One / Re: HMS Drake
« on: Thursday 19 November 15 02:45 GMT (UK)  »
I realize this is a very old post but I am also looking for information on my great grandfather who worked on the HMS Drake. His marriage certificate (1915) shows he worked as a machine turner on the HMS Drake. I'm not sure if he worked on it when it sank. I can't find a lot of information on him. His family never mentioned his time at sea which makes me wonder if ever talked about it. I know his record mentioned he spent some time in the cells for dishonesty  (uh oh). It is also believed that he had a problem with the drinking. I wonder if your grandfather and my great grandad were on the Drake at the same time.
