Hi Norrie - Many thanks for the extra research - at least we won't be looking through graveyards when we visit Markinch next year.  Interesting that from your two sources the names match up but the dates don't.  Family search has the best fit with our information about the younger David, who migrated to Australia in 1853.

I am interested in learning about the Shields family in Markinch, and wondered if you have any information on David Shields and Isobel Duncan.  I don't have any dates for David, but believe that Isobel died in 1846.
