Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / 500 4th cousins
« on: Saturday 10 February 24 12:24 GMT (UK)  »
My Ancestry DNA profile reached 500 4th cousins this morning.  How common is this? (My wife's is at 370).

Despite this some lines have yet to reveal any 3rd cousins let alone 4th cousins

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Suggestions for a 2nd cousin conundrum
« on: Sunday 20 August 23 09:53 BST (UK)  »
My wife has 3 apparent second cousin matches (on Ancestry)  from her 3 maternal great uncles who all lived in the London area

Cousin 1 b 1966London 207 cM - matches paper record
Male 2 b 2000 Cumbria 258 cM, father's name not recorded
Female 3 b 2002 Bedford 296 cM- mother's name a Yorkshire name (but not identifiable to a specific person)

Messages with Female 3 have indicated that Male 2's father's surname W is the same as her mother's surname and that they are close matches while she shares < 1% DNA (i.e. < 100 cM) with cousin 1

My wife has 7 other living 2C from this family line (born 1959 to 1989)

Thoughts?

MyHeritage shows an additional match at 239 cM, born in Lincs, with no apparent connection to any of the above

My wife's GGM was born illegitimate. her mother's subsequent marriage produced 12 children including DNA matches for a half 1C2R at 112 cM and a half 2C1R at 98.5 cM

However, the descendants of one of my wife's GGGM's elder sisters come out as much higher matches
3C matches at 169, 157, 130 and 93.1 cM and 3C1R matches at 130, 128, 108 and 72.8 cM!

Does this point to GGM's unknown father actually being her uncle by marriage?  The unexpectedly high matches then also being half2Cs etc.

Buckinghamshire / Elizabeth KILBY Missenden ca 1700
« on: Tuesday 23 May 23 14:51 BST (UK)  »
My 5 x great GM Elizabeth Kilby married Robert MOORCRAFT by licence at Little Missenden in 1713 and they then settled in Warfield. However, I have been unable to identify any likely KILBY families for her origin.

Any suggestions welcome

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Rationalising a 239 cM match
« on: Monday 27 February 23 13:48 GMT (UK)  »
On MyHeritage one of my wife's closest matches, at 239 cM, is a female born 1954. Her parents would appear to both have been born in 1910. However, the match is a shared match with a 3C1R from my wife's GGF, sharing about 60 cM with both my wife and the unexplained match.

On this line my wife's GF had 3 brothers, born 1907, 1917 and 1919 but none had sons born before 1950.
Since 239 cM is consistent with a 1C1R is the most probable explanation for the match that one of these 3 great uncles is the biological father? Or is GGF having fathered one of matches' parents also reasonably plausible?

Suffolk / George FRENCH (1829-1908) of Denston
« on: Tuesday 07 February 23 07:52 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can offer some suggestions about the possible parentage of George FRENCH, baptised Denston 1831  son of Susan FRENCH.
The 1841 census shows no signs of Susan in the village but George is one of two pauper bastards in the home of Thomas HONEYBALL. Consequently a large number of Ancestry family trees have Thomas as his father.
Multiple DNA matches to descendants of George point to George's father being one of the 3 sons of Joseph HONEYBALL but in the absence of a bastardy order can anyone suggest approaches to trying to clarify which one might have been George's father?
