Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Rationalising a 239 cM match

On myHeritage one of my wife's closet match is 239 cM but there is no link in the paper records.

The match is about the same age as my wife with the matches parents both born in 1910 and all 4 grandparents in 1878, all in the Stansted area.

While my wife has one line in that area of Essex, that great grandfather (born 1866) had moved to Battersea by 1889

These datessuggest that a half 2C relationship is unlikely. Can anyone suggest other plausible alternatives that match the potential relationships? (half 1C1R or half 1C2R)

Some time ago I was contacted by a 37 cM match who has a tree of 729 people on Ancestry. However, we couldn't spot any obvious link with nearly all his tree being from parts of England where I have no ancestry.

The only possible overlap in birth locations was his  3 x great grandmother but the surname given was no match. When I looked again the German surname given for her seemed implausible for rural Bedfordshire in the 19th century. And checking the GRO index for the maiden name of the mother of his GGF confirmed this, and also provided the key clue as to the link. The tree he, and others, had posted had used the wrong marriage (3 years later than reality). The real marriage having been in London it was possible to confirm that this was of my relative to his 3 x great GF.

His tree also indicated that his 3 x great grandmother had marrried again and this provided the clue to our link to a shared match. Her true also had an erroneous assignment of a parentage which again hid the true connection.

Kent / James SMITH (1850-1911) of Deptford- census locations 1891-1911?

James Smith was a carpenter from Deptford, the son of James Smith and Sarah Carpenter who was living with his parents at least until the 1881 census. Although he was buried in the family tomb at Brockley Cemetery in November 1911 I cannot locate him after 1881. I have found no evidence for a marriage.

Any information would be appreciated

Kent / James SMITH (1805-1895) of Chatham and Deptford

James Smith was a builder who resided in Deptford all his adult life from his marriage to Elizabeth Entecott in 1824 at Woolwich to his death in 1895 but James was born in Chatham according to the various census. He remarried in 1870.

He was presumably the son of James and Jane, baptised St Mary Chatham 29 September 1805.  It appears his parents had other children baptised at the same church in the period from 1803.  Can anyone shed light on this family when they were in Chatham or when they moved to Deptford?

My grandfather lived in Reading after WWII but appears to only be listed in the 1965 Electoral Register.

Would SKS look up the address for me and whether he was living alone.

Myheritage throws up a lot of lower level European matches for my DNA
e.g. I get 68 matches from France

My ancestry as far back as I can trace, in some lines to the 16th century, is confined to England. So can such matches be rationalised or are they pure chance?

Somerset / Roslyn Jean STONE 1920-2013

In trying to elucidate the connection to a relatively close relative highlighted by AncestryDNA I suspect the link is via Roslyn Jean STONE, probably born Somerset, who married Thomas Greenwood at Norton Radstock RO in the second quarter of 1939 and subsequently Thomas Henry Hancock.

The limited tree of the apparent relative gives her father as Frank STONE and the 1939 register shows her to have been born in 1920 but I cannot identify her birth registration. Can anyone help me track down her parentage to explore a potential link to my grandmother's family?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Cornish Ancestry and 10% irish/Scottish DNA

Having been given the Ancestry DNA test and having traced all my ancestry as far back as possible, mostly to late 17th century I have found no ancestors outside Southern England bar 1 3x great grandfather born in Walsall.

I was therefore surprised to get a DNA result of 10% Irish/Scottish DNA. However, I do have one Cornish great great grandmother. Could her Cornish ancestry account for most of this result?
