I know he somehow ended up in new Zealand. As they are listed as living at the same address during the 1963 census and onward. Even so far as having his full name,  James Brand Smith and her name listed as Elizabeth Rule Smith. ...  Just can't seem to find out how he got there!  Maybe he was a stow away lol  :o

Hi just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can find a better set of records for immigration from Uk to New Zealand in 1954/55, I have looked at a few but no luck.

I'm searching for Elizabeth Rule, born around 1920, who married James Brand Smith in Scotland in 1952 then immigrated to New Zealand about 1954/55. She was a dressmaker in the UK and he is listed as a Driver in Nz.

I have found them on the Nz census from 1963-78 in Wellington. We haven't been able to find any other records other than their marriage in 1952. Apparently they later had a son, we are trying to find any living relatives.

That's as far back as I have gotten on the RULE name. But i can trace some of the other back further.

Had a busy night! I managed to trace the rule name back about 7 generations,  and another side about 11 generations!

So this is what I have so far...

Working backwards from my husbands grandfather Henry "Harry " Rule

Henry rule
-born 1922 Falkirk Scotland
-passed away 2005 Morwell Australia

Henry's parent:
James rule b. c1885 Falkirk d. 1969 (aged 84)
Ellen McIntosh b. c1888 d. 1960 ( aged 72)

James's parent ( Henry's paternal grandparents)
Henry Rule b. c1851 d?
Elizabeth Rule b c1856

Ellen's parents (Henry's maternal grandparents)
Alexander McIntosh: blacksmith
Ellen McIntosh

And we think that James' father Henry may be the Henry we found in a previous search of blacksmiths at this link..so his (Henry's)  parents could very well be Robert and Agness rule
