Family History Beginners Board / Re: Preparatory School/Kindergarten
« on: Wednesday 12 May 21 20:03 BST (UK)  »
There used to be a preparatory school called Amberley Preparatory School at 70 Coleshill Road, Ward End which is just further up the road from Castle Bromwich. If you Google the name of the school it gives some details...

That link does state very few case files survive after 1937.

I suspect that there are a few people on here that for personal reasons are glad that is true   :)

Especially when you are the innocent party.

The Lighter Side / Re: Most children of same gender in a row
« on: Wednesday 05 May 21 08:37 BST (UK)  »
My great great Smith grandparents had six sons in a row before their daughter Annie Alberta Louisa was born, then another son followed by two more daughters.

Sadly Annie was only 5 years old when she died. The last daughter was also called Annie presumably after her sister.

Their mother died two years after the last child was born. By coincidence Annie Alberta Louisa was born the same date in October as my late father.

The Lighter Side / Re: Mass Observation One Day Diaries sought - Wed 12 May 2021

RTL, hopefully I will get to see my sister this year, we spent a lot of time together in the year before lockdown, our dad passed away March 2019 and it was comforting to be with her.

Mowsehowse I did my first one in 2017 just a few weeks after I lost my husband.

By the way I love the diary thread!

I shall be taking part again. 12th May is my sisters birthday, she's my only sibling and I haven't seen her since just before the first lockdown :'(.

The Lighter Side / Re: New census 2021 form
« on: Saturday 06 March 21 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
The form is 32 pages long! There is a section of 5 pages for each member of the household - in our case that's 15 pages, I'm going to let my adult sons fill in their sections!

At the front there is a four page section to fill in which asks about the type of property etc.

The last page is if there is a visitor on 21 March 2021.

We had our paper copy this morning in the post. I'm not going to do it online.

The Stay Safe Board / Re: Covid Vaccination
« on: Monday 18 January 21 11:06 GMT (UK)  »
I had a text this morning asking me to contact my G. P 's surgery about my Covid vaccination, it took awhile to get through and I have it booked for Wednesday afternoon at my own surgery which is a hub.

I'm in Birmingham and was expecting to have to wait a little longer as I'm under 75.

The Common Room / Re: Divorce Listings
« on: Tuesday 12 January 21 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
Are there any listings of UK divorces in the period 1950 to 1980 available?
NormanE

I  am happy there are no lists for divorces in the period 1950 to 1980, I suppose because I'd be on the list..... It would be a little like being put on the naughty step  ;D.
