Hi Loo

I went through the ICRC records and no reference to George or Elizabeth (Elisabeth) Behm. Any suggestions on how to go forward?

Thanks

Braam

I've tried the census but with my limited knowledge couldn't see anything. Also never any mention of George Behm...

It seems as if you may have found the right Florence, JJ. My Mom seems to think the dates are correct. Her spouse was Roy Taylor.  Perhaps it was a pet name? Date of birth seems correct.  I just wish I knew more about my Great-Grandfather. My Mom never knew him. He was also never discussed or referred to - not sure how he fitted in the whole puzzle.

Would one be able to find out more about Florence's Foundling past or is this close to a dead end?

Hi JJ

I'll find out from my Mom whether she has any further details. It's a slow process - sorry for that. Would there be any way in which one could find out more about which Foundling hospital she grew up on? Thank you soooo much!

Hi JJ

Florence was a Foundling so she wouldn't have known who her Dad was.  I believe she only had one name, ie Florence, however prefered to be called Pat.  She re-married Roy Taylor after she left SA to return to the UK in the 1940's.  Unfortunately I only have CGH Behm's birth certificate.

I have found the data about CGH changing his surname.  Makes sense, living in England.

I'm looking for information about my Great-Grandparents, Elizabeth (Elisabeth?) and George Behm.  The only information I've been able to find is as follows (most from the birth certificate of their son, Charles George Henry Behm, 29/07/1903, (later he changed it to Benn)) :

Elizabeth Behm (don't know her maiden name, something like "Haberor or Haberon"?) born 11 July 1868.  Nationality German and place of birth "Palone"?  She went to England 1897 and worked as a cook.  She was interned WW1 and reported to police weekly WW2.  Died Chatham 1944.

George Behm listed as being a domestic Valet.  Not sure whether he went to England with Elizabeth - nothing mentioned of him.

I would love to get more information about them - birth, marriage or death certificates.  Not sure how to do it?

Many thanks

Braam

Thank you so much, JJ.  You've been a great help.  As I've said I'm new at this so still very slow.  But I'll get there... :P
