Hi. Scotland's people catholic parish records other events has under the event column the letter 'A'. On the next entry it has the letter 'U' in the event column. Can anyone please tell me what this means, as I can't find an explanation of it on the site. Many thanks.

Scotland / James Nevin McHolme born Edinburgh 1881
« on: Wednesday 18 November 15 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to locate a photo of James Nevin McHolme. He was born in Midlothian in 1881. On the 1901 census he lived in Hamilton and was a watchmaker and jeweller. In 1906 he moved to Caslebar Co Mayo, Ireland, where he continued his profession until the outbreak of WW1. He joined the Connaught Rangers, and in 1915 was killed in action in Gallipoli. I have traced his obituary in the local paper, but unfortunately there wasn't a photo to go with it. If anyone can help or knows of a McHolme family in that area, I would love to know. James wasn't married or had children. He did have a sister, Grace born 1880? Many thanks.

Ireland / Re: McHolm from Co Antrim HELP NEEDED
« on: Tuesday 10 November 15 13:44 GMT (UK)  »
aghadowey, yes that's him. Although our family is from John, brother to Joseph, Joseph is the only one who's listed a place of birth on any census. Joseph's death record has parents as James and Margaret. I'm not sure of religion other than they were not Catholic. Many thanks. By the way on original 1871 it clearly states Antrim

Ireland / McHolm from Co Antrim HELP NEEDED
« on: Tuesday 10 November 15 11:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any reference to McHolm family in Co Antrim. Although I have come across various spellings of the name, I have not been able to find anything relating to them in Ireland. On the 1871 Scotland census, Joseph McHolme has his birth as Antrim. His brothers just have Ireland listed. Their father was James McHolm, mother, Margaret (nee Martin). Any help gratefully accepted. Thanks

Percy_veer. Thanks so much for that, it all fits. All the other death certs had same father, James McHolm, cattle dealer. Our family link is through John, one of Joseph's brothers, he would be our greatx2 grandfather. Love it when a mystery gets solved! Just William ( born 1811?) to find. His 1st son was also James, as with the other brothers, so considering the naming pattern, it's a possibility!

Just checked the 1892 death for Joseph, unfortunately doesn't match 'our Joseph'. Back to the drawing board!

Percy_veer, I forgot to mention, on Roberts death cert it has Joseph, nephew of deceased as informant. Joseph did have a son Joseph.

Hi Percy veer. I have a Joseph McHolm in the 1841 census age 23 in Troqueer, others listed are James, Margaret and Neven. I have a death certificate for Nevin, father James McHolm, mother Margaret (nee Martin). I have other death certs of john,James,Robert with the same parents. That's why I've been looking for death certificate, just to confirm my theory. Oh yes, I'm on the hunt for William's death, born 1811. He could be another sibling!
