Thanks Ken, I got in touch with Dumfries and Galloway council. They sent me a photo of Andrew that was in the Dumfries and Galloway Standard on 14 October 1916. It was lovely to finally put a face to his name.

I'm trying to find a photo of Andrew McHolm, who served in the 7th/8th battalion KOSB, and was killed in action on 15 Sept 1916 during the battle of Martinpuich. If anyone has a group photo that he may be in, I would love to see it. Many thanks

Andy, I have got birth/baptism for William McHolam for 1842 parents John McHolam and Margaret Laidlaw. I live in Ireland and have found that they pronounce McHolm as McHolam. John was Irish.

Thanks everyone. Just checked SP, no marriage for Halliday to either Laidlaw or McHolm. There's also 1 birth record for Margaret Laidlaw 1798 and 1 record for Margaret Halliday 1798. Mmm! Am I sensing an affair!

Hi. I hope someone can solve this mystery. On William McHolm death certificate 1925 it states parents as James McHolm and Margaret Laidlaw. On his marriage certificate it has John McHolm and Margaret Halliday as parents. On both certs his wife is Mary Ann. I have a marriage for John McHolm and Margaret Laidlaw 1830. Many thanks in advance. By the way I have a birth for William McHolam 1842 parents John and Margaret Laidlaw.
