big g

A bit off topic, BUT.... if you didn't already know, St. Andrew's Carlton has quite an interesting history.  My grandparents were married in St. Andrew's Gardiner along with many other family member's and old time family friend's of the day.

When you refer to McCullum's Creek, I take it as McCallum's Creek near Carisbrook.  There was a Wesleyan Methodist Church in Maryborough by at least 1866 although a minister was officiating in a Tent during the early 1850's.

OK yes this is my family and larkspur you've helped me before, always much appreciated.

This is the link to that thread:

There is ONE problem....

I am descended from George SHAW and Hannah PALMER who were wed on 30 Apr 1821 at Clarborough, where Hannah is from.  George died at Worksop in 1848 aged 50 (age re: GRO) making him born c1798 and slotting in between brother's John and Reuben as per Larkspur's list of issue.  The 1841 has him with his wife and family either in the same household or next door to John SHAW, dealer in game, his brother with Reuben down the street and also his mother Mary down the street, all in Bridge Street, Worksop.  BUT there is no baptism!  Also on the 1841 George states he was born OUT of county.

Then there is the 1817 baptism for George, son of William SHAW and Mary.  It must be a an adult baptism because George was born out of county and never baptised BUT on the 1841 it appears the 1817 George is with his mother Mary in Bridge St!  I can't place the 1817 George after 1841.

So who is MY George.  He was a metalsmith, so was Reuben and the father William.  He was dead by the 1851 so I can't get a birthplace.  Was the 1817 George the illegitimate son of the daughter Elizabeth 1894 and baptised by the grandparents?!?!

Thoughts?!?!?!

Hello and thankyou for your replies and valuable info.

Some interesting bits on Ordsall and Whitehouses.  Couldn't see any Palmer's at Whitehouses in 1840 but I did see a Richard NETTLESHIP who is probably a relative.  The widow PALMER was resident at Ordsall in 1760, she'd be my x7 gr grandmother Mary PALMER nee NETTLESHIP I'd think.

Robert PALMER was in trouble in 1680 for not attending church for 1 month, oh no!

The map of Whitehouses was great as it also showed Ordsall well.  The railway came awful close.

The PALMER records at West Retford added a few extra issue into the family.  There are two children to Abraham and Sarah, I can't find a baptism for Abraham in Notts to place him but there is an Abraham further back so poss he is descended from him.

Thanks again and I'll keep searching.

I have not seen that Maddy.  They are a fair way from home for school!  Reuben and Samuel born c1800 are brothers along with at least two others.

I'm not sure where the money came from, I suspect their father William was also a Metalsmith.

Many thanks,

hi team,

I have my PALMER family who were 'of Whitehouses' in the mid 1700's.

Would Whitehouses be as in the actual Pub or was it a locale/village.  The church records seem to be Ordsall.

Richard PALMER was buried 1728 of Whitehouses, and
Richard PALMER was buried 1757 of Whitehouses at Ordsall.

Is LINSKEY a very popular name in Ireland?!

A family I research for a friend has this name probably in Co. Galway, early 1800's.

ShaunJ that marvellous.

Do you think his children could be registered British because he was in the army, hence the reason I cant find a registration for them?

Hillhurst previously told me his occupation at discharge was 'House Painter'.  I also know he was a Verger.  Interesting combination.

Thanks again for that confirmation.
