Am getting hints  he died 1798 in London.   No records yet though.

Yes, I've seen those on Ancestry's trees. However, no evidence. There are a reasonable number of treen on Ancestry, but the inconsistencies are staggering and none have any evidence.

Thanks so much for the efforts, Keith

Warwickshire / Bromley of Baginton Hall, Warwickshire

Greetings all.....

I'm posting this here because it does involve the Bromley family of Baginton Hall, or at least one of the men who married one of the Bromleys. Where it will end up, I have no idea.

William Throckmorton Bromley (1726-1769) of Baginton Hall was born in London in 1726. He married a Bridget Davenport in 1756 at Westminster St James. At some point he was the M.P. for Warwickshire. Some time later, he inherited Baginton Hall along with a number of other properties from his father.

They had 5 children I know of: Bridget (1757-1785), Lucy (1758-1822), William (1759-1759), Mary (1761-1787) and a second William (1763-1810).

The second William inherited  Baginton Hall and all the other properties. He never married and dsp in 1810. The properties all then passed to Lucy who died in 1822. Lucy passed the properties to her cousin Rev. Walter Davenport, who added the surname Bromley. Note that both the Bromleys and Davenports were seriously wealthy. I mean SERIOUSLY.

It's to Lucy we now turn. She married Cromwell Price at St George Hanover Square Middlesex by License 3 Feb 1783.

So, by a roundabout route, we get to Cromwell Price. Does anyone here have any information about him, or where I may be able to find some? He was supposed to be a Captain in the Army is all I know. Oh, Lucy was a widow when she was buried at Baginton, so Cromwell died before 1822.

I've checked the following: Ancestry, Fold3, Findmypast, Familysearch, British Newspaper Archive, DNB, Alumni oxon and Alumni cantabrigiensis, Musgrave's Obituaries, brute force web search, all without success except for the marriage on Ancestry. Grrrr.

Thank you all most kindly, Keith

There is a baptism of a Louisa Farrant at Maresfield on 3 May 1840 to Friend Farrant (Blacksmith) and
Mary Anne.

Pheno
Thanks heaps for that, I really do appreciate it. However I'd really like to get access to the PR images or at least an accurate transcript, as I've found there are siblings for Louisa. Darn. And there are likely to be burials as well. I've found Louisa's parents and siblings in the 1841 and 1851 censii, so I'm gradually filling in the details.
Again, thanks, Keith

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the Maresfield PRs please?
I've tried Ancestry, both normal search and the card catalogue, FindMyPast, Familysearch, both normal search and the catalog, Sussex OPC, even archive.org and the Sussex Family History Group.
Help!
I'm actually looking for the baptism of a Louisa Farrant who, the censii tell me was born in Maresfield about 1839.
Thanks so much,
Keith

Possible death of Edward under his birth surname of Davey: Edward Davey death reg'd Dec.1844 Cuckfield, Sussex aged 7 (per GRO index).

Annette

Groan, why did I miss it. Went through the Lindfield transcripts (again!) and there it was 18 11 1844.

Thanks so much for that, Keith

Hi...

This looks like Julia marrying in 1860 at ST Philip Kensington.

John Shurlock Beer bach gentleman father John a gentlemen
Julia Crawfurd spin father Edward a gentleman.

One of the witnesses is Emma Crawfurd.

Julia appears as Julia Beer in 1861 born Lindfield Sussex in 1839.

 Tazzie

Yep, that's one of them. Checking 1851, the two girls are in a school at 49 North End, Croydon, which doesn't help much as to who raised them. The Edward as father may help although Edward is one of William's middle names.

Thank you very much, Keith

Hello all,
I'm looking for three of the children of William Board Edward Gibbs Crawfurd of Paxhill, Lindfield.

Details,
William B G E Crawfurd married Clara Homfray at Honingham, Norfolk on 8 Mar 1825, They had two children I know of. These are pretty well documented.

However, prior to this, he may have had as a mistress one Amelia Ann Davey (so far I've not been able to find a marriage). They had three children, Edward, Emma and Julia born in Lindfield about 1837-1838 under the surname Davey and indicated in the Lindfield PRs as base born. William Gibbs makes extensive bequests to Amelia and her children in his will which is proved by Amelia in 1840. There may have been court cases over the will as Clara is living in Paxhill in 1851, and the National Archives have reference to a couple of court cases in Chancery.

Amelia Ann Davey married James Stanbridge in Worth, Sussex in March 1841. In the 1841 census, the three children are with Amelia and James at Lindfield.
Amelia died in 1845 and was buried at Lindfield. In 1851, James has remarried and moved. The three children are not with him.

So to my question. Does anyone have any idea what may have happened to the three children? Or any pointers as to where I may be able to look for information? So far, the censi have not been helpful.

The Lindfield PRs do not seem to be online. I downloaded them as transcripts from the Sussex Family History Society.

Thank you all kindly, Keith Jeffery

Here is the Genuki page on Orchardleigh:

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/Orchardleigh

What records are you looking for exactly?

The name of Ayres, plus variants, seems to be quite common in the Frome area at that time.

Jo

It certainly seems to be common. James Ayres is from Frome, but his marriage licence says he intends to marry Diana Hopkins in Orchardleigh in 1759.
The marriages between 1755 and 1765 are missing, from the Somerset Archives, from Ancestry and from the Familysearch Cattle Dog. There are baptisms at Frome St John
for 5 children of James Ayres and Diana, so I think that we can assume that they married.
