Hello Lori

Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been busy out on the golf course!

Thank you for contacting me and for the photograph of Richard Byworth (born 1880).  I have been contacted by a Josephine Cooper on GenesReunited.  From the information you and she has provided it seems that my connection may not be with the Byworths.  I have Charles Bardy born 1916 in York marrying Dorothy Edith B Byworth born 1914 at St Maurice's, York in 1936.  However, it seems that Dorothy may not be a Byworth!  I did wonder why some of the offspring of Richard and Clara had Brown as a middle name.

I did download a copy of Richard's Attestation Papers (he enlisted 1915 and said he was single) and also details of his death registration in Canada.

From the information you have, do you know if Richard had a middle name - Thomas?  On 1881 census Richard and Emma have a son Thomas aged 1 (no son Richard) but on 1891 census Richard is 11 and there is a son Thomas Henry aged 8.  If Richard was born 1880 he should have been on 1881 census!

I don't suppose it's possible to confirm one way or another whether Dorothy was indeed the daughter of Richard - a mystery indeed.

Do you by any chance know where Richard was at the time of the 1911 census?  Obviously, his marriage didn't last that long as the first child with Brown as a middle name was born 1907 - four years after they got married.  The last I have of Richard is the 1901 census and the fact he got married in 1903 and then I just have the Attestation Papers 1915, some 12 years after his marriage.  If you can throw any light on the intervening years it would be appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards.

Zephyr

Hello Crisane

Thanks for coming back.  I put a request on the Yorkshire board for 1851 and was given George's whereabouts - in the household of William and Mary Ann Harrison living 12 Townend Street.  Apparently George's place of birth has been "dittoed" as York.  George is down as Cab Driver aged 22.  I feel sure this will be him.  From freebmd, the first Dockerill birth I have found in York is in 1853, the year after George and Emily married.

I've really just started on this line of my tree.  As I live in Yorkshire I can manage to visit Leeds library now and again which has some parish records from York but the Dockerills are difficult as they are down in Norfolk.  However, with the big help of the people on Rootschat I am starting to make some headway.

Thank you for the bit about Lydia.  I've yet to sort out all of George's brothers and sisters.  I have a list of the baptisms in Bartlow from the Cambridgeshire FHS site and also details of Dockerills in Bartlow on the 1841 census.  From this William appears to be living with Mary 30, Sarah 18, George 13 (Lydia 15 I now know to be living next door) plus from 1851 there is a daughter Harriet 13 (I don't know where she was on 1841) and a son John 10.  So, quite a bit of detective work yet to do!

Many many thanks for your help.

Hello Karenlee

Good morning to you too.  I am sure it will be the right person as it is an unusual surname in York.  No births of that surname come up until 1853.   He is an elusive man!  He died in 1879 aged 51 but I am unable to find him on 1871 using the basic search on FindMyPast.  His wife and children come up but he seems to have disappeared!  Something to keep my busy on another night.

Thank you very much for your help - it is much appreciated.

With grateful thanks.

Details of George Dockerill on 1851 census would be much appreciated.  He was born 1828 Bartlow, Cambridgeshire.  As he married in York in 1852 it would seem he could be in York on 1851 census as he is not with his family in Bartlow.

If someone could find him on 1851 census and let me have details, I would be very grateful.

With many thanks.

Hello Crisane

Thank you for 1851 census information plus the bit that Lydia was living next door on 1841.  Unfortunately, the 1841 details from the cambridgeshirefhs site just lists the Dockerills living Bartlow so one can't differentiate who is living in which household.  Under reference HO107/66/4 it lists William 55, Mary 30, Sarah 18, George 13 and Lydia 15.  I had presumed these were all in one household - so much for presumption!

At least I now know why I couldn't find the family on 1851 - that is one way of spelling the surname that I hadn't thought of!!

I really appreciate your help, Crisane.

With many thanks.

Hello CaroleW

Thank you for confirmation of William's occupation.  A 'senior moment' on my part regarding marital status.

With many thanks.

I have a George Dockerill born circa 1828 Bartlow, Cambridgeshire (parents William and Susan).  He married in York in 1852.  From Cambridgeshirefhs site, he would appear to be in Bartlow with his father William and siblings on 1841 but family not in Bartlow on 1851 (that I can see).  Could someone please confirm William's marriage status and occupation on 1841 and also find the family on 1851.

With grateful thanks.

Durham Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1861 Census Thomas Byworth

Hello Karenlee

Thank you very much for the census details.  I feel sure it is the same Thomas I found on Genes but all the extra information is very helpful indeed.  It looks like the family were in Ireland for the 1851 census which would explain why I couldn't find a suitable Thomas on Genes.

Many thanks again for your help.

Kind regards.
