Cork / Jeremiah O'Leary

Hello

I would be very grateful if someone can help me get started tracing the origins of my great grandfather Jeremiah O'Leary, who said in the 1911 Census that he was born in Clonakilty, Cork, Ireland. I am not new to family history but am new to Irish research.

My first record for Jeremiah is his marriage to my great-grandmother, Harriet Fitzpatrick, in St Bede's (RC) South Shields, Co. Durham in 1893. All subsequent records are also from South Shields.

Jeremiah was a mariner in 1893 though he was working on shore by 1901. He says he was the son of Cornelius O'Leary, also a mariner. My great grandparents named 3 sons Cornelius (all died).

Estimated year of birth ranges from around 1863 to around 1866.

Jeremiah's age was given as 26 when he married in January 1893; 35 in the 1901 census and 48 in the 1911 census. He was 72 when he died in 1935.

I have looked at the records for Co. Cork on https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ without any luck - but I gather not all parish registers for the county are yet included on the website? He may have been born just before the start of civil registration.

I haven't found him in any census for England, Wales or Scotland prior to 1901 - I understand that the 1891 and earlier census records for Ireland have mostly not survived?

Thanks for any help.
