Added 3 new family names to my tree from the info provided to date and still not looked in any great detail anything related to Ellen Wright. Now printed all 10 pages for this topic and will go through it later tonight. I will order a marriage certificate for John William and Ellen and update this topic once it arrives.

Added : Certificate now ordered, will provide update mid September

Geographically possible but unlikely in the 1880's. Took me about 15 minutes (from Sunderland) by car last Saturday.
If this were the first child of John William and Ellen he would have to have died before the 1891 census and the Annie we have spoken about within this topic would not be a family member based on the 1911 census showing only 1 child death. They did have a child called John William but he was born in 1896.

Not sure if this is just a coincidence.
Tried an 1881 census search for Ellen Howe (b1862 +/-2) in Leeds - nothing
Then Ellen Howe (b1862 +/-2) in Sunderland and came up with :
ELEN HOWE (b1863 Sunderland)
Looked at the original census which shows her working as a servant in a Sunderland Club.
Another of the servants was called Sarah WRIGHT (b1860 in Newcastle).
Coincidence maybe but the club steward Amos Broughton was born in LEEDS
Could Elen have married a brother of Sarah or am I barking up the wrong tree yet again?
More to do tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay in responding earlier, had a busy day today.
Had a chance to compare the 1901 and 1911 census and I think of the 9 births, 8 living, 1 died the only one that could be the "died" one is the first born Mary Ellen Davis (b1885) who is on the 1901 but not the 1911 census'. There is a strong possibility however that she married in 1907 to George Jobling and can be seen on the 1939 register with their 3 children still living in Sunderland. This being the case the 8 on the 1911 census plus Mary Ellen would account for 9 births but no deaths!. I'm now thinking the unaccounted for death is Annie (b 1889) as previously suggested.
Next job on list is to tie the Wright / Howe connection though the possible marriage in 1867 is 5 years after Ellen's birth in 1862.

Thank you for the info, going to take some time to have a good look.
I think HELEN CRAWFORD married EDWARD DAVIS (died 1872) and had 4 children one was JOHN WILLIAM (Ellen's husband). She later remarried THOMAS MORRELL and had a son, THOMAS SAMUEL MORRELL. MORRELL was my mother-in-law's (and one of her sisters) middle name so happy with that connection.
I also have a vague memory of seeing, on a census but not on the FindMyPast transcript, the names MORRELL, HILL and DAVIS living in the same building but cannot now find it. This may in some way link with ANNIE HILL DAVIS.

Don't have the original certificate.
FindMyPast transcription only shows John William Davis and Ellen Wright with marriage date Q4/1884
Was hoping I could find info before buying a certificate. Realise I may need to buy her birth certificate as well.
Children's birth transcripts show mmn as Wright so happy I have the correct surname
for Ellen.

Maybe asking the impossible with this one as the information I have is very limited but here goes :
Trying to track my wife's great grandmother Ellen Wright from birth in Leeds to her whereabouts on the 1871 and 1881 census' which will hopefully show her parents names.
She married John William Davis (born Birmingham 1862) in 1884 in Sunderland and lived in Sunderland until her death in 1915. Her husband was living in Sunderland in 1881, 3 years before their marriage, and still living in Sunderland with their youngest child (my wife's grandfather) and what would seem to be a new wife on the 1921 census.
As always all help is appreciated.

Thank you
tried Free reg and found John and Alexander records.
Tried Andrew and Elizabeth but nothing found.
To get a feel for the site I tried various search options for my wife, myself, my parents and my wife's parents and got no hits. Maybe i'm doing something wrong so I will give it another go tomorrow.
Back to Mary Gibson - seems reasonable to now assume that she never married and passed away in Tweedmouth between 1861 (living with son Andrew) and 1871 (Andrew living alone in same house).

Before I move on to another branch I would appreciate your opinion on the following.
I have found a possible maiden name for Mary Gibson.
Whilst I was looking for children of Mary Gibson I came up with 4 options.
Other than Elizabeth (1808) and Andrew  (1812) who we know of there were 2 others
Alexander (1807 Tweedmouth) mother shown as Mary Gibson, no father mentioned.
John (1803 Berwick) father John Gibson, mother Mary Nesbitt.
I have tried various basic searches, one for Gibson to Nesbitt with no place or year settings included, but no success.
Can anyone confirm above please.
