Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / 1861 census lookup for Monmouthshire please
« on: Tuesday 21 March 06 08:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,

I'm looking for the following 2 individuals:

Thomas Price born 1843 in Oldbury Staffordshire (rest of his family are in Six Bells, Llanhilleth) occupation Coal Miner.

Clara Rogers born ca1844 in Clutton, Somerset - her father's name is Samuel and he is a collier.

Thomas and Clara marry in Llanhilleth less than 2 months after the census is taken, but although I can find them in later censuses in Abertillery, I cannot find them in 1861. ???

I hope someone can help!

Monmouthshire / Info on housename in Abertillery - please!
« on: Monday 06 March 06 22:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
During the 1940s my grandfather worked as a Superintendent at a special school (it may have been some sort of borstal or institution) in Abertillery.
My father, who remembers it as a child, says it was called something like Coed-y-iorwg and was in the area around the High Street.
Does anyone have any information on this school or the housename of the place where the school was located?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Completed Census Requests / Help needed - place name & location - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 30 January 06 16:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I've just received a birth certificate for an ancestor dated 1847,
who was born in the district of Rhayader, at (what looks like)
Cwmclyd in the Parish of Cwmtayddwr.
Can anyone help me find out where these places are - from what I can gather
from current maps (the old maps don't give so much detail), it could be
around Llansantffraed Cwmdeuddwr, but I don't know where Cwmclyd might be.
My relative's father was a Millwright by occupation and I notice
there are several reservoirs in the area, so perhaps Cwmclyd is
near there?

One Name Studies: T to Z / TUNLEY - all areas
« on: Sunday 22 January 06 12:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,

One of my surname interests is TUNLEY, from the Evenjobb, Kington, Kimmerton and Presteigne areas of what is now Powys in Wales.  Also the family moved to the Tredegar area of Monmouthshire in South Wales, so there are connections there too.

I'd love to hear from anyone else researching the name.

Helen

Montgomeryshire Lookup Requests / HAYCOCK - Welshpool/Llanidloes
« on: Tuesday 17 January 06 17:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have ancestors John Haycock born ca 1817 in Welshpool who married Elizabeth (maiden name possibly Humphreys, but not certain) who was born ca 1819 in Llanidloes. They had one son John in Llanidloes and then (post 1845) moved South, ending up in Risca.

Is there anyone who could find out a bit more about, in particular, John Haycock (his occupation is coal miner or sinker) and he and Elizabeth must've married around 1842 or so?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
