I still have no news of Charles Denney born Manchester UK, 19 September 1912. Abandoned by his single mother circa 1923/4. (No sign of him in the USA or Canada.) It's possible his biological father was a sailor... We now think Charles as a very young man may have joined the Merchant Navy, possibly from his base in Birkenhead. How young could he have joined up? How do you search Merchant Navy records 1920s onwards, please? Thank you :-)

Seeking news of Charles [Charlie] DENNEY. (No middle name.) Born 19.09.1912, Manchester, England. Early years spent in Birkenhead, Cheshire UK. Known to have been 'adopted' in probably the mid-1920s, when his single Mum couldn't look after both him + new baby. Can't find him anywhere in the UK records, after his birth. Was he taken to Canada? (British Home Children? - I have not yet found him on their lists.) Does he appear in Canadian death records? All help gratefully received. Thank you :-)

Family History Beginners Board / Charlie DENNEY 1912 - ??? Manchester/Birkenhead
« on: Saturday 06 February 16 11:37 GMT (UK)  »
Charlie (Charles) Denney, what happened to you? Born 19.9.1912 in Manchester to single mother Katie Denney (sometimes Denny), her dates 1880 - 1956. Both based in Birkenhead, with Charlie probably schooled there (close to Birkenhead Park?) till 1920s. Placed with ('adopted by' ?) another (unknown) family in mid-1920s? because Katie couldn't look after Charlie + new baby John b.1922. [Katie, still unwed, then called herself Lewis from 1920s onwards.]       All I can find is Charles Denney's birth, 1912. Where was he placed? Did he take another surname? Was he lost in the War? Or is he a member of your own family, and you know the story? It's a tough one; please suggest lines of enquiry if you can. Thank you :-)
