Down / birth/baptism sought of Arthur Fagan, around 1852 C. Down
« on: Monday 13 December 21 12:08 GMT (UK)  »
The couple Arthur Fegan (also spelled Fagan) and Catharine McClory married on 18-10-1839 in Newry, Co. Down. They get 13 children: first four in Annaghlone, Co Down (1841-1845), then four in Liverpool (1847-1854), and finally five in  Kilcoo, Co. Down.
I have found RC baptism records for all but one: Arthur, named after his father, who according to the census record of 1871 was born circa 1852 in Liverpool. Her married 8 July 1872 in Liverpool with Elizabeth Downes. Any help in finding the birth or baptism of this Arthur will be greatly appreciated.

Down / Re: Marriage of Hugh Fegan and Mary Morgan, ca. 1809? Southtown

Thank you, oldohiohome! That will keep me busy for a while. I doubt the ancestors I am looking for owned land; several of the children went to England, to work in the Liverpool docks. Not very wealthy, I expect.

Help! (I am a Dutch amateur genealogist, trying to piece together the ancestry of my daughter-in-law, who is of Irish descent, and finding Irish genealogy quite hard, with the paucity of details on the baptism and marriage records.) Any suggestions how I should/could make progress?

Down / Marriage of Hugh Fegan and Mary Morgan, ca. 1809? Southtown

I am trying to find the marriage of Hugh Fegan and Mary Morgan. This couple has the following children, all baptized RC in parish Kilbroney, Co. Down:
Peter bp. 11-12-1808
John bp. 02-06-1811
Eleanor bp. 07-06-1813
Arthur bp. 28-09-1815
Patrick bp. 18-02-1821
Catherine bp. 10-08-1823.
At the first baptism, the mother is Mary Morgan. In later baptism, she is given as Mary Fegan. Does this mean that the couple was not yet married when Peter was born?
Other information about the parents is also welcome.

Thank you all for burning the midnight oil on this!

I have the birth certificate of Jessie, of 8 December 1874, Holborn. Het father is given there as Edward MANLEY, and her mother as Jessie Manley formerly Davis. So not only uses mother Jessie her correct maiden name (and the fictious Davis), but also gives the father the surname Manley rather than Seeger.

Thanks again!

I am trying to understand the discussion re. Jessie Seeger I started in August. I have still two questions.
1. I seem to be unable to find the baptism reported by Neale:
"There is a baptism for Jesse Manley in Bethnal Green , St Phillip on 27 Dec 1874 (birth was 8 Dec)
Parents are Edward and Jess Manley. He is a purse maker.
Address 17 James Street".
(I use FindMyPast, and do not find this baptism there.)
What else can I do to secure a copy of the baptism record?
2. Likewise, I cannot find this birth in the GRO records. Shouldn't it be there as well?

Thank you again for helping an overwhelmed Dutch genealogist...

Wexford / Re: Marriage sought of Frank Duffin and Anne Spellers, Wexford? around 1855?

With the age given in her death record, that would make Anne's birthday around 1856, so even earlier than (so far) first-born Patrick Duffin. With parents Frank Duffin and Ann Spillane born around 1823 and 1830, that would place the date of their marriage likely between 1848 and 1856, don't you think?

No, I cannot find her. I looked in the 1901 census for her, without success, but by then she might have married.

I do have the death registrations of Frank and Ann:

Frank Duffin died on 29 September 1878 in Battlestown, 55 years old, married, labourer. Informant Anne Duffin. Superintendent registrar's district New Ross, Registrar's district Fethart No. 2, in the Union of New Ross, Co. Wexford.

Anne Duffin died on 22 January 1883, Battlestown, 53 years old, widow. Informant Kate Duffin. (Other data as above.)
