Hmmm maybe I got him mixed up with his son, who was a John Thomas but went by the name Thomas.  So maybe he is just John Perkins.

I know for sure himself and Martha were around 16 when they married, as he is listed as 83 when he died in 1902, and she is 84 when she died a year later.

They did not stay in Birmingham - in fact they came over to Ireland to live with their son Thomas (born 1846) who moved to Inchicore in Dublin, Ireland where he worked as a Railyway Clerk.  Thomas was in Dublin by 1870 as he married a local girl there that year.  I don't know when his father John Perkins came to Dublin, but he was definitely there in 1901 living with his son.

Thanks all for your help.

On FamilySearch.org (a resource I never knew of) I was able to learn that John and Martha had another child, Henry, who must have died at birth or shortly after RIP.  I was also able to get their date of marriage (April 1836)and first child Alfred's full DOB, proving that while they got married at 16, it must have for love as opposed to necessity as baby Alfred was a 'honeymoon baby' arriving in the following February 1837.

Any idea how I could the name of the parents of John Thomas Perkins or Martha Richards?  I can't find their births on FamilySearch.org.

Their ages are correct - I know from their ages at death; they both lived to a good age, 82 and 83

Thanks Bev, that's them ok. I thought I had seen Weaver on the 1841 census. Subsequent to this he became a trainer driver. 5 years later his son Thomas was born, and he would in turn come to Ireland to work on then Railyways.

John and Martha certainly started young on the kids!

Hey,

I've traced my family back to John Thomas Perkins, who lived in Heneage Street in Birmingham. He was born in 1820 and was married to Martha.  I think he was a weaver in 1841, and subsequently became an Engine Driver.  I'm interested in learning more about his past if anyone can help, and also about Martha (I don't have her maiden name).
