Hi all,

Iím looking for any source of information on Charlie Macís ballroom that would have been frequented by Irish emigrants in London in the 1960s. In particular some photos of the place would be great - itís where my parents in law met, would love to dig something up for them.

Thanks both. The Perkins family history page on Wordpress is actually my own, and I have been to Catherine's grave in Ballycoog. The links to the newspaper sources are very useful however, thanks!

My great aunt Catherine ('Kate') Perkins (nťe Haven, of Thurles) died on 3 Sept 1920, aged only 48, so very young. She is buried in Ballycoog graveyard, beside Woodenbridge, Co. Wicklow, but unfortunately there is no state record of her death, so I have been unable to find the cause of death.

Herself and her husband Pierce ran the Woodenbridge hotel around this time, and because of this, and her young age when she died, I thought it may have been mentioned in a local paper at the time.

Would anyone have any suggestion as to what would have been the local paper in the Woodenbridge/Aughrim/Arklow area around 1920, and where would be a good place to access archives of the papers from that time?

Any help gratefully appreciated!

Family History Beginners Board / Thurles Sugar factory
« on: Monday 14 August 17 16:20 BST (UK)  »

I am researching my family history, and have a great Uncle Patrick Perkins (b1917 d1989) who worked in the Sugar Factory in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland in the 1930s/1940s.  Does anyone on the forum know if there is a heritage office or historian who could help me find any records, stories etc relating to Patrick Perkins from his time working there?

Any assistance greatly appreciated!

He listed himself as a widower on his second marriage, which was in Ireland in 1921.

However Pierce had another child by another women (unknown, but Scottish I believe) in 1917, so given I haven't found a death cert I can't rule out a marriage breakup. Pierce and Catherine's son went on to be a catholic priest so I assume they were a religious family, and divorce or separation was maybe unlikely so. However Pierce was also away in the Navy, so a difficult circumstance!

Looking for help to find the record of the death of Catherine Perkins (nťe Haven, born 1872, Tipperary, Ireland).

Also known as Katherine/ Katie. She was married to Navy man Pierce Perkins, and was living in Gillingham Kent with her son Pierce Junior as per 1911 Census.  I anticipate from Pierce's subsequent relationships and marriages that she died between 1911 and 1915, but can find no record of any death on the England, Wales or Scottishness GROs.

Any help much appreciated.

I didn't know that, that is a great insight. My fear was she had died young.

My mystery now is who looked after her when her mother died? I can't find her with her father George subsequent to her mum's passing.
