Technical Help / Re: Familysearch causing high CPU?
« on: Sunday 08 May 16 10:47 BST (UK)  »
I haven't experienced the problem, but my guess would be that there is a problem with a script (javascript, etc) that is trying to run on the FamilySearch page.

Mike.
Thanks yes I suspect it's bad code, but its definitely been going on for weeks  ::).

I am on my iPad, and for the last few weeks familysearch has been slow, freezing or just not responding.

I have thought of deleting and redo download, but have not yet. Rarely use it anymore, as it just clogs and becomes a waiting game.

I miss it though, thought it maybe my iPad, but it worked fine until the last few weeks.  All else is ok.

Any idea why?

Cas
Is that an app? I'm not sure about that, just using familysearch on various browsers (IE11, Firefox).

Technical Help / Familysearch causing high CPU?
« on: Sunday 08 May 16 09:10 BST (UK)  »
Thought it was actually findmypast  ::), but no it appears innocent after checking on various browsers, every time I open familysearch my CPU & fan starts going, when I close the familysearch tab(s) it goes down again, anyone able to confirm?

(this on Windows 7 BTW)

I'm still getting an apology for technical problems today, and then it will be fine for a while :o

Sorry to hear that :(, it does seem to be working OK for me now, no trouble searching or loading images.

Well everything seems to be back to normal at findmypast, touch wood  ;D!

I'm assuming you have access to FindMyPast?  I have found some in the BT's that I couldn't find in the Parish Register, now I always check both.
Hi, yes I've been checking both  :). The large amount of Poynton entries that are missing sadly I suspect points to there being a previous register that was lost, or baptisms were carried out without being recorded at all. The Poynton church history page states there was a chapel in Poynton since the 15th century, the registers however only date from 1723 (although there are a few entries that predate that that were added later).

You might want to cast your net a bit wider.
As well as St Peter Prestbury consider St Mary Stockport, Chadkirk Chapel Romily and don't forget non-conformist records. ;)

This website might be useful to you.

Thanks I had found that site, very useful! I have found quite a few Priestnalls in Stockport as well as Macclesfield. Also some at Marple & Pott Shrigley, sometimes giving Poynton as their place of abode. Some of them also seem to have been quite involved in the Dean Row Chapel in Wilmslow, leaving bequests to its upkeep in their wills.

Cheshire / Re: 'Latinized' names
« on: Friday 06 May 16 23:25 BST (UK)  »
Yes I found this, I think in the Macclesfield register in the early 18th century. Unfortunately I don't think findmypast recognises the latin names as variants of the english, so if you're searching for a James & a William & it's listed as Jacobus, and Guilelmus you won't find it  :(.

Cheshire / Re: Saltersford-Cum-Kettleshulme

A simple question for someone with a little local knowledge. Can you tell me where Saltersford-cum-Kettleshulme is please? ???

Regards

Stewart
I wonder if you encountered this place for the same reason I did, which is that findmypast have incorrectly labelled all Prestbury marriage records as  Saltersford-cum-Kettleshulme  :o ;D?!

I have recently discovered a link with this area & am tracing my line in the Priestnall, Pickford, and Pott(s) families ;D. I have managed to trace back to a William Priestnall, yeoman of Poynton who died in 1728 & left a will, however, I can find no baptisms of his children who I think were born in the 1680s-1690s, only a burial of one, Deborah, in Prestbury, and his probable wife Martha in 1704. I am also missing many baptisms of what I believe are his son's children, of Thomas I have two at Prestbury in 1704, but then am missing 5, William, m. 1710 probably many missing with two burials at Prestbury in the 1720s, Matthew I am missing the marriage, and baptisms of at least three sons mentioned in wills. George who m. 1722, I am missing 8! I know the Poynton Chapel register started in 1723, but does that mean that baptisms did occur before but were simply not recorded? However that would not account for all George's children missing as he married as the register started. Would appreciate input from anyone with knowledge of this area or the families involved  :).
