Thank you avm228.i have all the children's baptism records and were all baptised at st james,Bristol except for john which seems unusual. But  I will pursue Sarah's birth certificate!
I was thrown by the name Lot but maybe it's connected to her mothers maiden name?
Thanks so much for your advice !

Thank you Gibel,
That's where my confusion with Johns background came from wether he was from Wales or Bristol so I stuck with the 1841 census that he was from Bristol.Maybe the poor man wasn't too sure where he was born 😀😀😀I did follow Sarah & have her marriage to James Rathborne in 1863 & she moves on to Bedminster.there was also another child William Lot baptised in 1837 but I can't seem to find birth certificates for any of the children. The only death that fitted Johns age was in 1869 in st Nicholas Gloucester in the union workhouse St Catherine but having followed the other children that surprised me . I will continue my hunt on those certificates ! I was hoping to find a register in a stonemason guild or something of the like for more clues as one of his sons became one too!
You certainly are a wiz ! I really appreciate your response !

Family History Beginners Board / John Fox stonemason in Bristol

I'm looking for any information on John or Jane Fox who were living in Rowley place in Bristol ,St Mary Redcliff, according to the 1841 census. John was aged 45 and his occupation was a Mason their children's names were:
John,Harriet,George,Henry, jane , & fanny and all were born in Bristol & baptised at St James.

I have had no luck finding any records for Janes maiden name nor her marriage to John.
I have also searched for directories of stonemasons hoping to find out more with no luck.
Any suggestions to help me get past this brick wall would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
