Cardiganshire / Confusing Surname Notes in FreeREG Record!
« on: Sunday 21 August 16 15:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

This is the record of one of my ancestors (William George) but I am confused on why the surname of the father is different from the register's note. It says George George, but the note says George Simpson. Any ideas?

Monmouthshire / Isaac Kemble's and Catherine Donovan's Parents
« on: Sunday 03 July 16 09:16 BST (UK)  »
I have gathered census records and a baptism for Isaac Kemble (Born, 1841 and Baptised 7 Mar 1847). He died in 1907. The baptism record shows and 1841 census shows Isaac's parents as James and Elizabeth. I am wondering if anyone could assist me in furthering his lineage as I can't seen to find convincing records for him.

He also married a Catherine Donovan, who I'd like to further research also. She was born in 1842 in Newport, Wales and parents were Timothy and Mary born in Ireland.

Any assistance for these two would be great! Thanks.

Technical Help / Do You Separate Your Research by Lineage or Ancestor?
« on: Sunday 03 July 16 09:09 BST (UK)  »
I currently have one tree that I have successfully used for many years which has 1800 people on it. I like this method because it is simpler and organises reports that can be generated easily.

I have seen others use different family tree projects or Gedcoms for a specific ancestor, surname or lineage. What are you thoughts on this? Do you do it? If so, what are the pros and cons?

Ireland / Which Ancestry subscription allows Irish records?
« on: Sunday 26 June 16 16:02 BST (UK)  »
I live in the UK and I know I have Irish ancestors but I am just wondering, will I need to get a worldwide subscription or can I make do with a premium subscription being that the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK?

I would like to use Ancestry but I cannot embed it to a website or make it visible for unsubscribed users.

So, what websites would you recommended for an entirely public tree that can be reached by anyone without an account? I am asking because it makes searching easier for those getting started and for my family who ask about viewing my tree and such rather than sending them silly reports and PDF files.

Thank you!

Census and Resource Discussion / How do you effectively search newspapers?
« on: Friday 24 June 16 15:13 BST (UK)  »
Thanks to some members on this forum, I have managed to gather newspaper articles on my family. I wanted to ask globally: how do you effectively search and access newspaper articles without paid subscriptions like ancestry and such?

On average, how many people do you think had their photos taken in the period of 1870-1910?

The Common Room / The One-Month Feature of Ancestry.co.uk
« on: Friday 24 June 16 11:13 BST (UK)  »
I don't want to get a 12 month subscription at Ancestry yet. But, I want to get a "Premium" package for just one month. For those who may have experienced a one month subscription, are there any limitations compared to purchasing for 12 months. I am inquiring here because Ancestry is very vague with its comparison of features.

I want to create a public website that can be viewed by anyone interested or related to the family. I already have years of experience creating websites (already owning two) so I don't need any recommendations for what to use. But I am just wondering if anyone who has a family history website/blog could share HOW they share and cross-platform their data through other websites too (ancestry, Wikitree etc.).
