this is in a line about Debts, Judgements & Mortgages being charged to a testator's estate

... Mortgages & other Jurum brances Charged thereon

That means nothing to me or google so I have obviously completely mis-read it.

Thank you!

The Common Room / Digitisation at National Archives

If one orders a document to be digitised. Surely it should then show up in Discovery as having been done?

Iíve got my images OK but it seems bizarre that they donít then change the catalogue.
Iíve always assumed that getting people to pay for things they want was a way of funding the digitisation work.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Chancery case

This snip falls in the middle of this phrase. What is the word after "should be  &..."?  I thought perhaps it meant "Etc" but it makes no sense (to me)  in the context.

and of his said will appointed the said Catherine Countess of Donegall sole Executrix and charging amongst other things that the said Earl did by letter to the said Jno Echingham Chichester appoint the said Three Hundred pounds & the Interest thereof should be & Ö. to your oratrix to and for her own proper use & benefit  absolutely and charged that the said Earl soon after dyed and that the said Catherine Countess of Donegall proved his said will & took on her the execution thereof

New Zealand Completed Requests / John PRIAULX death between 1902 and 1905
« on: Saturday 17 July 21 09:52 BST (UK)  »
I have been contacted by a friend asking for help to find the death of John PRIAULX.

He married her relative Amelia REID previously THORNALLY in NZ in 1892
he appears in the newspapers in March 1902 qualifying for the pension.

Amelia died in 1909 and her will is on Archway. Dated 20 Feb 1905, She is described as a widow of the late John Priaulx

Can anyone see his death?
I feel I have tried every possibly wild card variant, but obviously I have missed the crucial one!

Thank you very much

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / John's surname
« on: Monday 12 July 21 10:28 BST (UK)  »
Surname of the witness John - transcribed on Freereg as Scotchmer

The "S" doesn't look the same as the S of Solomon to me.  But Am willing to be over-ruled

belongs to this thread.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / What is the motherís name?
« on: Friday 09 July 21 02:41 BST (UK)  »
Iíve already posted this clip on another query

ButÖcan anyone make any other interpretation of the motherís name in this clip than the one I have. I am starting to think she is a fictional character!

Appeared personally the same day the Rt Honíble Jane
Countess of Levin of St James in the County afsd by virtue of her corporal
Oath Deposeth that she is Mother to the
aforesaid Elianora Chichester & that she
 is consenting to ye same.

I donít know what it says in the lower left corner

Would be grateful if someone could repair the rip in this photograph.

Thank you

I have a document from LMA. regarding Elizabeth MORGAN suing for restoration of conjugal rites (which I suppose is code for needing money to support herself) from her husband John MORGAN (he of the Inner Temple. (Who had children with someone named Sarah)

It says

"... in Our Diocese of London to appear personally before the Right Worshipful
John Betterworth Doctor of Laws Vicar General and Offical Principal of our
Consistorial and Episcopal Court of London lawfully apointed his
Surrogate or Some other competent Judge in this behalf in the Common Hall of Doctors
Commons situate in the Parish of St Benedict near Pauls Wharfe London"

The document with this in it is dated 26 June 1764. It was served on the 29th June, and returned on the 2nd July 1764.

Where might I find records of the hearing at Doctor's commons?   Which should have been in the week of 2nd July, if not actually on  the 2nd July (he had to present himself three days after being served

I have searched the Lambeth Palace Archives online Catalogue, SoG catalogue and looked more at LMA.  But I suspect am not searching in the right way.
