Midlothian / Carmichael Cunningham, born 30 Oct 1825, Colinton, Edinburgh.
« on: Tuesday 09 August 16 21:33 BST (UK)  »
Looking for some help or advice to trace death record of forenamed Carmichael Cunningham born 30/10/1825, Colinton. He was my Great Great Grandfather and last found in 1861 census staying in Colinton Village, Edinburgh with his wife, Jane Watt and children.

Although it is a fairly uncommon name it turns out there is at least another 7 Carmichael Cunningham's in the family born between 1798 and 1910 that I have found so far. This Carmichael Cunningham was a Master Blacksmith by occupation.

Any help or advice appreciated.

Hibee / Tidybooks,

Thanks for the info and will follow up. The description of Manse Cottage having 4 rooms certainly makes it bigger than a standard cottage. Much appreciated!

Hi All,

Checked address Bellfield Cottage, Manse Road, Corstorphine, and on 16th March 1913, an Elizabeth Walker, wife of William Miekle, died at that address. So John Graham did not live at that address in 1913.

Tom

Thanks for info Tom. In 1901 census there was approx 12 people at the address from various families including Meikle  family. The 'cottage' part of the name seems to be throwing me off track as it is a large house.

His son Irvine turns up in Cardross, Dunbartonshire in 1911 census. Irvine got married in Glasgow in 1922 and his marriage certificate stated his father was deceased. His father John Wilson Graham would have been 72 in 1911 however no trace after 1901 census. Its a puzzler!

Midlothian / Re: Seeking 3 WEDDELL / WADDELL Brothers aft 1866
« on: Saturday 06 August 16 21:17 BST (UK)  »
I am reaching out with hopes someone will know something.
 I am seeking 3 Weddell/Waddell brothers.
I last have them together on the 1861 census at Balleny Farm House,Currie,Midlothian.
They were listed with their father John Weddell & step mother Mary & four 1/2 siblings.

Their Names & birth years are:
 Thomas Weddell born    c 1840 at Dunse,Berwickshire.
James   Weddell born Oct 1844 at Fala,Midlothian
Robert  Weddell born Jun 1847 at Lauder,Berwickshire.

I am beginning to believe that they "might" have immigrated to ,who knows where.
If any of these three brother sound like they might be yours,..do drop a line.
  Many thanks……Ann

I have Weddell in my family tree also from the Edinburgh area. John Weddell, born 17/11/1812 in Newbattle, Midlothian, Edinburgh was my Gt GT GT Grandfather. John had 2 brothers, David born 1808 and Thomas born 1811. As you'll be aware Weddell sometimes becomes Weddle or Waddell or Waddle etc! I would imagine there will be a connection between the families mentioned as it wasn't a common name.

Any help appreciated on this address or Graham family.

Scotland / Re: Newton family
« on: Saturday 06 August 16 18:02 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in hearing from anyone researching the newton family from Linlithgow and Fife area. My grandfather a miner at Cowdenbeath was killed in a pit accident around 1917 he was married to Margaret Anderson from the Wemyss.

I believe that my grandfathers family were from Three Mile Toun near Linlithgow.

Margaret Anderson from East Wemyss as above, was my Great Great Aunt (she was my Great grandfathers sister). Havent researched the Newton side so far however I have researched the Anderson side. I believe James Newton and Margaret Anderson had 3 children from the marriage.

Hi Chacha,

I believe this Graham family are part of my family tree. As previous posters have said James Graham was born David James Graham in Mouswald, Dumfries, Scotland in1871. His parents were John Wilson Graham, born 1839 in Ireland and Jane Stirling Weddell, born in Edinburgh 1843. John Wilson Graham is my Great Great Grandfather. Did you find out any other info on this Graham family? I aware John Wilson Graham and Jane Stirling Weddell had 6 children including David James Graham.
