Sarah Brickley was my 2Xgreat-grandfather's sister.

The pics below (derived from an ancestry member tree) appear to have been taken on the same occasion. I'm thinking it might have been their 25th wedding anniversary in 1867. To me, both (but Sarah especially) look a bit older than 43 and 46 which they would have turned a little later that year, but the clothing and props look about right. Sarah had had 10 children by then, with one that year and one more to come, so perhaps she was a little careworn.

I think it's the same fellow. And here's my go at a restore.

Certainly not the same woman. To me the photo of Richard's wife looks to have been taken a little later than the first photo. She looks about the same age as Richard does in the first photo; I'd go for half a decade difference, perhaps after the mother had died?
Anyway, I'm envious of your having such remarkable old photos.

Hard to tell their ages. To me he looks 45-50. She looks older but it isn't clear from the photo. Certainly their pose suggests it's his wife or mother. The clothing looks about right for 1860s.
Could you post the picture of his wife for comparison purposes please?
And my moving it up the board should get a bit of attention from more expert people.

The original photo was probably sepia toned so I've tinted yours, Phil.
I thought the man 2nd from the right looked like he had a cigarette, so I've kept that in. It can be removed if you think it doesn't look like it in your copy; just let me know.
Anyway, here's my try. :)
Cheers,
Peter
