Armed Forces / Fifth Dragoon Guards enlistment, 1793
« on: Saturday 06 June 20 13:21 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I've found a record of an ancestor who was in the Fifth Dragoon Guards - it's a discharge document from Dublin in 1817.

His name was George Montgomery and it shows he had served in the corps since March 1793.

Would there be a record of his enlistment? I can't find any other documents online.

Thanks for any assistance

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Latin word in parish register, 1697

Hello, in the middle of this image is the baptism of Elizabeth, daughter of John Ash.

After John's name is what looks like the word 'Lair' - can anyone suggest what this means? John was a butcher and was sometimes referred to as John Ash junior, but I don't recognise this term.

Thank you

Thank you so much!

I can't believe I couldn't see the word relict. Great to have a full explanation of it and confirm the relationship.

Hi, attached is some writing at the bottom of an inventory.

The deceased is Thomas Moseley of Wingerworth in Derbyshire. I suspect that his wife Dorothy remarried immediately after his death to John Fidler.

Can anyone suggest what the last few of words of the third line are - after Moseley? I assume the word at the end of the second line covered by the dark mark is 'alias', as in Dorothy Fidler alias Moseley.

Thanks

Does anyone speak Danish?! This record is from a list of 'free coloured' people in the Danish West Indies in 1816.

The first two images are column headings and the third image is some text from one of those columns.

I think the text explains how the people concerned came to be freed from slavery.

Thank you for any assistance!

Thank you. I'm embarrassed that it was so obvious - because this register is not verbose, I wondered if it was an unusual remark.

Hopefully Penelope's family will be revealed through wills!

Hello, can anyone read/translate the additional text after my ancestors' marriage - it's the fourth one down - Thomas Bower and Penelope.

Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1620s parish register

Hello, can anyone suggest what the asterisked name is? I've included two examples from the parish register of Keelby, Lincolnshire in the 1620s.

This is a fairly legible document, but this name I'm not sure about.

Thank you
