Hi Pat

Thanks very much I am sure to have more questions, and it is great to know someone out there cares!!!!

Hi Pat

Thanks a million "Pat to my rescue again!" I was amazed to find a reply so quickly!  Looks like my ancestors were pretty well off eh?

I am having a lot of fun going through the sites you sent, in fact I am late for an appointment right now - how do you find em? (the websites I mean?)

Thanks once again - must run.......

Cork / Harrisgrove where in county cork?
« on: Wednesday 15 March 06 23:33 GMT (UK)  »
searching for Harris members of my family in county cork, I have come across a place called Harrisgrove, County Cork (during late 1700's early 1800's) does anyone have any idea where this place is, or have they ever heard of it?  Any information would be grateful - could it be that my Harris's owned their own Grove???

Hi Carol and Pat

Thank you very much for your invaluable help in my search for relatives in the west coast of ireland. You were really super and very well informed. Believe it or not, a cousin of mine contacted me and send me her collection of family data that included the elusive Katherine (not Catherine) I was seeking and that has tied up all the loose ends for me.  I am now a happy person.  Once again my thanks

Hello Carol

Were you born in December also?   Thanks for the reply, Pat also mentioned Carrigaholt too, it being the central village, the only thing I can think of is to write to the parish priest and ask for information on Catherine, do you have an address?  I would like to see the photos

Hello Pat

Thank you so much for the reply, I had already found the clare website which is very good, I wish all the counties in Ireland had the same! The information of the "Little Ark" was very helpful.  I had also found the Griffiths information and know that Catherine has to be related to one or another of them, it seems that the Melicans in Clare are all related one way or another, and I have contacted some of them, but none have come across my Catherine as yet, if I could find out where she could have been baptised around 1842/45 I would be very happy.  Thanks again

I am trying to trace my GGGrandmother Catherine Melican born 1842/45 Kilbaha.  I cannot find out who her parents/siblings were because I cannot obtain a baptism cert.  The reason for this is the church for this parish was not built until 1857.  Previous to this people worshiped in hiding and in a small building called "The Ark" on the beach at loophead, because of the persecusion of the landlord, who wanted his tennants to become protestants. Can anyone tell me how do I find out where she could have been baptised, would they have gone to another church? help please I dont know of another way to trace back without parents names!
