Lincolnshire / Grimsby town hall county court clerk job
« on: Thursday 02 November 17 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
I have a female relative aged 29 on the 1901 census as a C.C Clerk, (home town Grimsby)
Would I be correct in assuming that this stands for County court clerk and if so could  she have worked at the Town Hall in Grimsby and if so would there be records held there regarding employment? Also can anyone clarify what the job description entailed and was it likely a woman would hold this position in 1901?
thankyou

Does the 1939 census of this thomas h give a d.o, b or where ?

23
I can't see any mention of him in Australia, Gwen.

There is a death of a Thomas H SOBEY in 1957 aged 65 in Northumberland, UK on https://www.freebmd.org.uk/  There are no other details given so it is difficult to tell if it is him.

does the 1939 census of this thomas henry  give d.o.b or place of birth at all?

Hopefully some UK experts will be along soon to tell us more. :)

That death was probably this birth:

Births June quarter  1891
Thomas Henry Sobey   Tynemouth  10b   279

Showing on 1939 with an Edith  A Sobey born 1895.

For info.

The 1891 birth entry from GRO indexes gives the above Thomas Henry Sobey'
mother's maiden name  SIMPSON

he seemed to be on a vessel called the sweethome in 1911 census

Apparently after WW1 he left to go to Australia but was never heard from again.

Thomas' pob is given as Donegal - it's possible that this is his birth entry

his brother robert got married in Northumberland so there could be a connection but like you say could equally be this thomas.

Yes that looks like them thanks, I knew about William.  I thought thomas would have made himself older for the navy as Robert did the same.

According to the census he was born in ireland as was his sister florence. No idea why except maybe work as they went back to pembrokshire  however I havent checked birth records in ireland yet to make sure just took it for granted
