The Common Room / Re: "In attendance" on death certificate
« on: Friday 31 May 13 11:48 BST (UK)  »
No, there is another category called Present At The Death.  In Attendance probably means the person was visiting or attending them regularly during their last illness.

See here for more details:

Happy to give it a go.  I have a couple of marriages that I can't trace too.  I believe some registration records were lost during the Blitz (especially in London).

Completed Census Requests / Re: Is this an occupation or a name?

Do you have access to the original image of the census instead of the transcription?

Where are you looking for the marriage?  On FreeBMD or parish records at the record office?  A register office marriage would not show in church records.  Could be a mistranscription.  Are you willing to give out their names so others could have a go at finding them?

Birth Registration was not compulsory in the UK until 1874. Many parents until then thought baptism quite sufficient.

The Common Room / Re: Francis - male or female forename?

I have several Frances relations and if you can't find your Frances on a census, look for "Fanny" because Fanny was a pet name for Frances.
