Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Robert Gregg/Craig 3rd Great Grandfather
« on: Wednesday 03 February 21 23:01 GMT (UK)  »

I have just come across your post today, Amelia Gregg/Craig sister of Robert is my 3rd Great Grandmother, I have recently been researching the family.

I believe Robert was christened at Wath upon Dearne, where Mary Ann Hargreaves family came from, even though on the census it says he was born at Cheshire.

I think our 4th Great Grandfather George Craig is the one buried at Handsworth Church 7/4/1840 age 40, died at Four Lane Ends (there is no record of this death on GRO) so I have just applied to Sheffield Registrar but unfortunately they haven't been able to find any death record. (Gutted)

I have found a George Craig birth 26/11/1898 Attercliffe Father Robert mother Mary.
plus other children listed below
Joseph Craig  1801
Matthew Creag  1803
Robert Creag 1805-1815 (buried Handsworth Church)
Mary Creag 1805
Charles Creag 1808
Benjamin Creag 1809
Thomas Creig 1811
Francis Creig 1813

Just to let you know I got the above information from transcriptions.  A lot of the above names correspond in my case with the next generation.

I see you mentioned a scottish connection, just wondered how you came to this please.

let me know what you think about my finds

Best wishes

Hi I am looking for help with the above and her parents,

Hannah Elliott  bn 1816  Ecclesfield (per Census 1841 to 1891)  death 1897 Barnsley
married Michael Copley in Barnsley in 1834
Their Children were
Charles Copley christened Ecclesfield 4/1/1835  before GRO
Moses Copley Christened Ecclesfield 30/4/1837  before GRO
Samuel Copley   GRO 22 451 1839  Rotherham       MMN  Gothard
David Copley      cannot find a record for him
Alfred Copley  GRO 22 476 1845 Rotherham           MMN  Elliott
Edward Copley GRO 22 456 1847 Rotherham          MMN  Elliott

Hannah then married George Saxton 1855 in Sheffield  They had 2 Children George MMN Elliott
and Clara I cannot find on GRO
I decided to get this certificate Hannah's fathers name is Samuel Gothard I believe he married a Sophia Elliott 5/7/1818 at Rotherham

I'm guessing that Hannah was illegitimate as she seems to have been born before parents marriage.
but I can't find any birth for Hannah mother Sophia
And I can't find any birth record for Sophia Elliott, on the census 1841 to 1861 she was born at Chapeltown Yorkshire

Any help would be much appreciated

Thank you Rosie and Sandiep for your replies

I did look around the churchyard, I got the death records from Register of burials in the parish of Dronfield, 1870-1904, the heading on Ancestry is Church of England Burials 1813-1991.

I will ring and try to find more information

I know they are both buried in Dronfield but i'm wanting to know where abouts please.

I have Samuel's burial on 1/4/1891 at Dronfield age 66, and Mary Eliza's burial on 26/12/1903 at Dronfield age 82.  Awhile ago I did go and look around the Churchyard but I couldn't find a headstone.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you
