Canada / Finding a birth help please - 1941
« on: Sunday 16 February 20 17:09 GMT (UK)  »
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=825778.new#new

In the above thread we're trying to find a birth for the little girl in the photo. A death for a husband of who we think could be the Suzanna Mary Ida in the photo I have in Canada and I am hoping we could find a birth to show where she was born. Then it'll be a struggle to find out how it ended up in my great grandma's photo collection.

Thanks for any help I receive.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / A photo from 1941
« on: Sunday 16 February 20 09:33 GMT (UK)  »
I have a photo of a baby and it has her full name and dob on it but I can't find a corresponding birth reg for her. I am  not 100% on her middle and surname but I am  not sure if I'm allowed for post the photo's rear in case the person is still alive. Does anyone know if I could post the surname to get a second opinion?

The Common Room / 'an excommunicate person'
« on: Saturday 18 January 20 14:00 GMT (UK)  »
MY 7x great grandma had at least 3 children after her husband died in the 1750s. On the final baptism and burial of the children she is listed as an excommunicate person. I know to excommunicate someone is to banish them but what would this have meant to my 7x great-grandma at the time? Was she not allowed to go to church? And what about the impact it'd have on her children?

World War Two / People interned at the start of WWII
« on: Tuesday 10 December 19 19:09 GMT (UK)  »
I have just been told that one of my relatives was interned for 5 days at the outbreak of the war. He was my great granddad's brother so I'd expect my great granddad would have been too. They were both born in Leeds but their dad was born, and grew up, in Germany to English parents, but we believe he had a strong German accent.

I was wondering if anybody knew where abouts they - if it was both of them as I haven't heard it passed down our side that it happened to my great granddad - would have been held and if there's any records of the time? And also what would they need to provide to get out of the place they were interned.

The Common Room / Help with 4x great grandmother - Elizabeth Gittins
« on: Sunday 01 December 19 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
My 4x great-grandma married my 4x great-grandad, Samuel Rippon/Ripon (and other spellings) in Liverpool in 1837. She was from Cheshire and was born in 1815 & he was from Wakefield. They had 6 children and Samuel died in 1854. She remarried in 1861 in Dewsbury to William Armitage (as an aside, if you view their marriage cert, William's entry for father is interesting). I don't think they had any children. William died in Wakefield in Dec 1880. But I can't find anything on Elizabeth after the 1871 census. No death or 1881 census that I can be sure it's her.

Would someone here be able to help in finding what became of Elizabeth, please? I can't find a record for her buried in the same cemetery as William which I thought she would have been. I can't find her remarrying either.

Thank you.

The Common Room / 1801-31 census - has anyone found invaluable use of them
« on: Monday 14 October 19 12:50 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone found any great clues or help from these pre-1841 censuses?

I've only looked at them briefly, and my family were not of any high standing so never owned property,  but maybe someone has found their family at a known address or as some other way to help.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Keighley burial records and plot details
« on: Monday 27 May 19 14:49 BST (UK)  »
Who would hold the records and maps for cemeteries and churchyards for Keighley? I have a few plot numbers for Utley Cemetery but a map of the Cemetery would help me pinpoint the location before I visit there in a couple of weeks.

YorkshireIndexers have a few photos of a couple of Keighley's cemeteries but their database doesn't stretch that far outside of Leeds' districts, unfortunately.

Any clues or help would be a great help.

World War Two / More unknown soldiers photos
« on: Thursday 16 May 19 20:25 BST (UK)  »
I'll post a few more pictures I've found in my box of unknown soldiers. Some have writing on but they don't really help me in figuring out who they are.

The likeliest two options to consider are:

They're my great granddad's who was a desert rat, or
They my great grandma's first husband's who sent them to her. I don't know what he was in the war.

The first one says 'this is my best pal' on the rear.

The second (left in photo two) says 'Sgt. Alder outside my 'office''. The third says ''brewing up' this is Sgt. Adler + cpl Wiffen'.

Sorry for the low quality. I've another pile of photos, another handful from the same place as the last two photos and some that looks like my great granddad but are in a back yard and other build up places. I'll upload them if there's interest.

World War Two / Identifying uniform and/or lady
« on: Tuesday 14 May 19 21:34 BST (UK)  »
I've got 3 photos of this lady, all in this uniform, but at different locations. This is the only one where she wears the had and the medal (?) On her left breast pocket. I've no idea who she could be but it seems strange that my family would have kept 3 photos of a lady from three different times  unless she was important to them (the photos could have come from at least 3 of my family as they were all put in a box over the years as relatives died off).

Thanks in advance for any help.
