You appear to be resurrecting a 2yr old post but in doing so - you are causing a lot of duplicated efforts

I see you already had the info re: the marriage above etc - have you bought a copy of that marriage cert to establish Eliza's fathers name?

Have you followed up on any of the census info posted by Pel's?

Thanks for remining me i had got some info on here already!! like i said in that post 'got my blonde head on'...yet again  ;D
Sorry for any confusion caused!  :-*

Marriages Jun 1878

Hodgson  Amos     Bedale  9d 851
Peacock  Eliza     Bedale  9d 851

If Eliza's birth surname was Peacock - then George was illegitimate

Thankyou, yeah i was wondering that...is there any way i can prove it or would theynot have registered the birth of illegitimate children then!?

I have found in 1881 census for my great garndmother, that she has a stepson living with her and her husband and a bro in law.
The census is 1881 Crakehall
Amos Hodgson  head age 27 b. snape ag labourer
Eliza Hodgson     wife       27      bullermoor
George Peacock  stepson   4      Soberhill York
William Peacock   bro in law  9    Under Cotcliff York

My great grans maiden name was Peacock, and i am trying to find out if the stepson George is her son from a previous relationship or !?
I have not yet found the parents or siblings for Eliza...i think her parents could be John Peacock and Ann Blackburn, i am still looking for info to back this up.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this!

Hi,

Lanchester Bishop's Transcripts are on Familysearch.  I've had a quick look and there are a few Callenders around.

In 1789 there are two baptisms on page 179

Jessey  dau.  of John and Jennet Callender of Gateshead
Maria dau. of Mr. Callender, surgeon, of Dipton

both baptised on 25th December

On 28th Oct 1793 page 210

Ann dau. of Robt Callender, surgeon, of Dipton

There may well be others if you fancy a trawl through the BTs

Cheers

Gina

Whats BTs please  :-\
thanks for that info, its all looks good!! Not sure on the John and Jennet tho!? I havent come acroos them before. I do know in the late 1800s there was a grand daughter in the callender family named Jennetta (cant remember if ive spelt that right) Maybe she was named after the Jennet Callender you found! Stab in the dark, but you never know
thanks again  ;D

Hi,

There is a John Callender listed in Jan 1859 in The Medical Register (on Ancestry). He is of Greenside, Durham and is listed as being in practice before Aug 1 1815.

You may have this info already if this is your ancestor?

mim

I had info on him being a doctor, i didnt know there was medical register on Ancestry, i will go and have a look at that, thanks  ;D

I am tracing the Callender side of my dads family.
I have gone back to John Callender b. Lanchester 1792, he was a surgeon and was married to Amelia Hannah Watts, b London 1799
I am having problems going back to find Johns parents. My sister thinks they are Scottish, i just cannot find anything.
Can anyone help?
thankyou  :)
