Hi Chempat

I will put all the info I have on tonight when finished work.
My head is full of info that I find hard to process sometimes.  I have looked back at my Scotlands people info and have a few more things that I hadnt noted down.

Chempat,
I got told from a cousin in the USA

The earliest I have is an Edward McDonald that was born in Ireland
644/8 Scottish census 1901, died in Scotland in 1940.  His Mother was Margaret McMullen who I have no info on and his father I think was Edward James McDonald.
There is one of their graves in St Patricks, Eglish in Dungannon, Tyrone.

Edward McDonald, who must be a great great grandfather.  His son died in 7th February 1846 aged 21.  which takes it back to 1825if his son Jon was born in Ireland
Henry McDonald died 20th November 1984 aged 70 and his wife cecilia died 4th January 2003 aged 89
They had a farm in the township of Cormullagh

MonicaL.
Yes , I am working back from Margaret McDonald

Hi.
I was looking for help in how to trace my Scottish roots.
Their name is McDonald and they came over from Ireland to Scotland in the 1800s.  But I am sure they must have originated from Scotland and went to Ireland first.  I got told that there was a story that they went to Ireland in the 1600s.  How would I find when they first went to Ireland and when the first ones came back to Scotland again.

Thanks

Martin

Hello again Isobel.

I would like to thank you for this info you got me.   Everything is correct and I have now been in contact with a lot of my Dads family who knew absolutely nothing about us.
It has been a huge shock to all of them.

Thanks again Isobel.     more than 20 years after I started looking, you managed to get it.

Forever grateful.

I dont know how you do it but thank you.

I was thinking about what you found earlier and I have been thinking now that my Dads adoptive father may have actually have been his real father.  due to an affair with Margaret.   This makes sense as to the birth certificate and being brought up by his paternal family.  Closely guarded so as not to hurt his Mum or tarnish his dad.

Thank you.  I will now work on this
