London and Middlesex / James Joseph Murphy
« on: Saturday 06 April 24 14:40 BST (UK)  »

A second pair of eyes would be very useful please - James Joseph Murphy, 30 year old labourer, married Edith Jane Davison at St Lukes, Chelsea on 6th August 1905.  By the next census, 1911, Edith is back with her birth family, shown as Davison in Battersea, and recorded as single.  What happened to James?

All I know is his father was Thomas, a station master (taken from the marriage cert).  I haven't found James in any census.  That Edith goes back to her maiden name suggests to me the marriage failed rather than James died but I might be wrong.  I haven't found divorce papers nor does she remarry before her death in 1967.  Any clues would be gratefully received.  Thank you.

Just wanted to say thank you again - initially I tried the 'format' option and quickly realised it wasn't what I wanted to do (bear with me) and trundled  off to FHUG and trawled their suggested external videos, found myself of YouTube and discovered my mistake!  I use the software in a basic way because I'm really technophibic and have ignored all the wonderful tricks the developers have added to the package.  I guess that's pretty standard - 100 users will no doubt use the programme at least 75 different ways.  So this old technophobe is off to discover what the software can do for me ... thank you for the push.

Hi  I'm using FH7 and wondered if it's possible to use different box colours to highlight individuals? Or maybe a different font?

Thanks  :)

Thanks both! Totally agree, that site is excellent and I can pass a lot of time rooting around looking at different places.

And thank you also for the tip about layers - I'm going to need YouTube to show me how of course  ;D ;D ;D

Hi - does anyone have experience of using digital maps to chart movement please?  I use Family Historian which has geo-mapping and of course there's Google maps but are there any other options?  I'm not greatly tech-savvy and want to keep things simple and digital.  Any ideas please?

I'm happy to know that I haven't missed an infant death so thank you for that.  She's not my direct ancestor so I'm gap filling and won't worry about tracking her down.

Thanks for looking  ;) :D

Just to confirm that 'Edward' was William and I have his death certificate so thank you for that.

Elizabeth Charlotte continues to be a mystery.  I've tried Davison, female and checked through 1850s with the GRO but I haven't found a burial either so where did she go?

yes, the baptisms were in the names Edward William and Elizabeth Charlotte and may have been registered differently.  William was his grandfather's name but why not call him William Edward?  Funny lot.

I have a burial for Edward in 1851 so it could be him, will take a look.  Thank you  ;D
