Norfolk / Capes of Twyford
« on: Sunday 28 May 06 19:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,
I would like to hear from anyone who has researched or has an interest in the Capes family in the Twyford area.
In particular Edward CAPES who born in Twyford, Norfolk ca 1785.
He must have moved to Greenwich by 1810 as he married there that year. 1851 census says he was a harness maker.
Thanks in advance.

The Common Room / Non Conformist church records ca 1800
« on: Thursday 11 May 06 14:22 BST (UK)  »
I strongly suspect that a number of my ancestors were members of Non Conformist or Dissenting churches.
They were not baptised or married in their local parish churches at the LMA and I have checked the records held at the National Archives for the NC churches and Dr Williams Library to no avail.
They were living in the Bethnal Green/Spitalfields/Mile End areas before 1837.
There were lots of churches in the area but none contain my ancestors, names Jeffryes and Arrowsmith in particular.
Can anyone advise on where any additional records may exist?
Thanks in advance
Derek

Devon / Palmer family of Hennock and Lamzed in Bovey Tracey
« on: Wednesday 29 March 06 14:54 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the birth place of Samuel Palmer.
In the 1851 Bishopsteignton census he says he is age 68 and was born in Hennock, making him born about 1783, but on looking through the Hennock PR there is no Samuel Palmer anywhere near that date.
There is however a Samuel Palmer born 9 May 1784 to Samuel and Mary Palmer in the Bovey Tracey PR. But on the Bishops transcript it looks like it is spelled Parmer.
There is also a marriage between Samuel Parmer and Mary Lamzed on the 21 April 1783 in Bovey Tracey.
Has anyone researched these names and can advise me on the likelyhood that the Palmer and Parmer names are the same persons.
Also has anyone any knowledge of the Lamzed name as I can't located a birth for Mary Lamzed in Bovey Tracey, but there is a Mary Lamshead born 4 April 1763 in Bovey Tracey.
Are the Lamzed and Lamshead names the same?
Thanks

Somerset / SHENTON family in Chelvey
« on: Wednesday 29 March 06 14:25 BST (UK)  »
Looking for anyone with connections to the Shenton family in Chelvey ca 1750.
I have a lot of information on the descendants of this family and am looking to their origins, they did not come from Chelvey, no mention of the name in the parish record prior to 1747.
Shenton is not a common name in Somerset does anyone know where they came from?
Thanks

« on: Wednesday 29 March 06 14:12 BST (UK)  »
Looking for anyone with connections to the Woodland and Findell/Findal families from St Albans before 1800.
Earlier records show Woodlands in Ware are the two families connected?
I have a lot of information on the descendants of these families and am looking to their origins.
Woodland is not a common name in Hertfordshire does anyone know where they came from?
Thanks

Wiltshire / Haines in Turleigh, Bradford on Avon
« on: Monday 27 February 06 18:34 GMT (UK)  »
I have just found this on the 1851 census for Turleigh, Bradford on Avon, can anyone shed any light.

Edmund Haines 46 Ag Lab Bishopstone, Wilts.
Ann wife 47 Wroughton, Wilts.
William son 19 Ag Lab Westerham, Kent
Elizabeth dau 10 Westerham, Kent
John son 7 Westerham. Kent
Frederick son 4 Turleigh, Wilts.

I know that my GG Grandfather was Edmund Haines but have never managed to trace him. He may have been from Wiltshire if this is him.
Is anyone researching this family and has anyone come across this census return before?

They may have married in Chelsham, Surrey which is near to Westerham, but if this is the correct couple why have two pepole born in different villages in Wiltshire gone to the Kent/Surrey brrder area?
One theory is that they were estate workers, but does anyone know who may have had homes in Wiltshire and Surrey/Kent for whom they may have worked.
Any sheding of light gratefully received.
Thanks
Derek
