The more I magnified the name from the link Heywood gave, the more I thought I could see the faintest line where the initial downstroke should be if it is a D.

I mucked about with contrast and brightness and I still think I see that downstroke?

Maybe this will help?

Wow, thank you!!!! I think that confirms my suspicions!  ;D

Something like that, I would think  :)

All of the later records for the kids are Donnellan/Donnellon but we have so many spelling variations of our surname, you have to be very open minded.

What do you think it should be?
Have you found any children’s baptisms or civil registrations after 1864?

If I have the right one, Ancestry has his name transcribed as Hanlan  but it is so difficult to read.

I have looked it as a negative too but still difficult to read. It might end with ‘an’  :-X

I'm hoping it's Donlan or Donlon or Donelon, that would be the final piece of the puzzle, I have the children's birth records and the first born was born in June the following year.

Hi guys

Fingers crossed this is the record I'm looking for. Can you tell me the surname of Pat, who married Bridget Loftus? (see pic)

This is the original record -https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discoveryui-content/view/903895201:61039?tid=7984007&pid=25800296285&queryId=7519c713fa68b124fe04c569eb1474cc&_phsrc=dWx313&_phstart=successSource
