Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Wedding record - Locations?
« on: Thursday 07 April 22 10:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys

Trying to help a friend establish the Irish roots of her family. This record is good, lots of detail!

Couple - Ellen Carroll, from Cavan and John McEoy, from Louth.

Questions
What is the name after "Filium"?
What is the text after "Filiam" and does it contain the word Mayo?
What are the witnesses names?

Thank you

Could it be Cloncorick in Co. Fermanagh (which fell within the Clones Registration area till 1922)? The surname appears to be McCabe. If so there’s 4 households of them in Cloncorick in 1901:

That would make sense.

Henry McCabe is a parent in the family I'm researching as a possible DNA connection to me.
I think this is a grandchild of Henry,

A few doors down is the couple from the record I posted, Daniel Fitzpatrick and Bridget (nee McCabe, Henry's daughter)

Now, if I could just find out how they are related to me!  ;D

Clincorrick??

Kay

I think you are right, although I can't find it on a map, it's mentioned on church publications in Clones. Thank you.

I think it's Scale(s?) Repairer, as in weighing scales.

You haven't said which census this is from, but I see the enumerator has given it the occupational code 260, which happens to be the one used in 1921 for repairers of weighing scales:

Yes, it's the 1921 census, thank you!

Hi

Can anyone tell me what the word after scale is?  This lady's father was a fish hawker so is it something to do with removing scales?

Possibly "Scullion" - a servant assigned the most menial kitchen tasks.  :-\

That fits, thank you.

Hi

I'm trying to determine the job title under ship's cook, something to do with the scullery?
