I am not offended by your suggestion falcybe, but I am totally baffled and astounded by it.
I inherited a good deal of research from my grandfather over 60 years ago
I'm not surprised at anyone being baffled by my thoughts, I struggle with them too sometimes but it is my heart and not my head talking. Mind you, I sometimes wonder if it would make any difference if they (heart and head) swapped jobs.
We too inherited a lot from our grandfather, but mostly anecdotes which later proved to be true and helped in our research, and a few photographs of parish registers, some of which we still have to marry to our family or discard.
Nowadays, my sister's study and computer is like a third ministry with everything referenced, cross-referenced and happily-referenced.
When I think about it, I would be happy to pass on a bare-bones genealogy of the sort we inherited but the rest was our hobby and as I have no great worship of the past, it would not grieve me if our descendants threw out the paperwork supporting the trees.
cheers, falcybe
