Cheshire / Re: Mary Ann Bell Nee Clutton
« on: Sunday 05 January 25 16:23 GMT (UK)  »
That's not her Jon, the Alice I knew was Mary Ann's daughter, my grandmother Elsie's sister.
I visited Alice a number of times in the 1960's at her place in Wheelock, I suspect she would have been in her 60s but thanks for the effort and time put in.
Given Mary Ann was born in 1883 and died in 1909, and the fact I have her 1901 census record, I've accepted I wont find her 1891 record but in the grand scheme of things, its no biggy eh.

I had come to that conclusion myself Mabel, having found no supporting evidence on either side of the Clutton family  ::)
I think this is going to be one of those searches that doesn't prove fruitful, as Milliepede said, sometimes you have to settle for what you've got  ::)

I've seen that one too Ladyhawk and it fits, I need to do a bit of sideways research regarding the Cluttons to see how it ties up relative wise and if I find it does, I'll let you know.

Millipede; I think your right, the baptism record maybe the best I'll get.
Ladyhawk: Sorry, yeah I meant the 1891 census, is it strange that an 8 year old doesn't appear on the census though??
I'll double check the grandparents, see if that throws anything up but I suppose being boat people, she could be anywhere, a search for her on Ancestry and FindMyPast hasn't found her either so it might be a case of THAt quest being over.

As we all know, evidence is everything and I'm re-visiting my great grandmothers as I still cant find any evidence of her birth.
What I know......................According to her baptism record in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire dated 26th March 1883, her parents are Thomas and Sarah Jane Clutton (nee Minshall) her baptism record shows a birth date of 27th January 1883 and the 1901 census shows her place of birth as Ellesmere Port too.
So, enough to go on via GRO and the BMD websites but alas, nothing.
I think the Issue maybe the fact the Cluttons were boat people with births and deaths here, there and everywhere and the village of Wheelock in Cheshire keeps popping up too.
The dates quoted are definitive but it seems they are not enough, so, I'm stuck.
I cant find her 1991 census record either but I do know she died in Manchester 27th March 1909.
So, any suggestions or help would be gratefully appreciated.

well, that proved easier than I thought, I downloaded the GEDCOM file to my desktop as suggested by Gadget #5, then just uploaded it to FindMyPast, it was THAT straightforward, why I got Roots Magic involved I'm not sure, I think I got confused by just opening a GEDCOM file and the download/upload process.
Anyway, its in FindMyPast and seems to be working fine.
Thanks to everyone for the advice and assistance, its what this site is all about.

Hi Gadget, I don't get that far, I click on the upload button on FindMyPast, it opens a window to my desktop but doesn't show the GEDCOM file, I suspect the problem might be with RootsMagic, I might be doing something wrong but I don't know what.

Thanks for the advice guys, I do a lot of gaining the evidence, census reports, baptism records, GRO records etc but I hit the blocks when I cant find any of them, which is why the forums on RootsChat are a godsend.
So, moving forward, I'll search and order up the records as suggested and see where that takes me, once again, thanks for all your help and I'll keep you posted on my research.
