Sussex Lookup Requests / Henry Puttock/Puttick and Ann/Anne Duke

I am hoping someone here may be able to help me track down potential christenings for these two people who were married at Wisborough Green in 1691.

I think Henry may have been born in Fernhurst, son of Richard Moon, in 1662 as so far this seems to be the only christening I can find within a reasonable distance from Wisborough Green.

So far I cannot find any sign of Ann though. I know there are Duke families in Wisborough Green and Billingshurst as I have found several wills for that name linked to those parishes but all bar one predates 1671.

Any suggestions for Ann would be welcomed as would any other ideas or thoughts/confirmations regarding Henry.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Martha Elizabeth Dyke c1830-1836

Is anyone here able to locate a christening for Martha Elizabeth Dyke in the Stepney or possibly Limehouse area of London?

Martha Elizabeth Dyke was the daughter of James Dyke and Martha Huson Ryall. She married Joseph Pinkney Murray in 1854 when she is described as a "minor". I have found her on the 1841 census along with her parents and siblings. Her age here is given as 7 making her born c1834. Her siblings were Narcissus [age 12], Georgianna [age 10], Henrietta [age 8], Frederick [age 4] and Alfred [age 1 month].

I have James, Georgianna, Henrietta and Frederick on the 1851 census but I can't find Martha anywhere yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Will of John Turner

Hi All

I'm hoping someone can help here. The attached image comes from the will of a possible ancestor John Turner from Sussex. The problem I am having is deciphering where this John was from. It looks like it says "John Turner of Tableherst in the countie of Sussex gentleman" however I can't find any place called "Tableherst" [or any other spelling].

Does anyone know if I'm reading this right or can anyone say where this place is?

Kent Lookup Requests / Smith-Cox Marriage Canterbury 1875

Hi

I am trying to find out if a marriage that took place in Canterbury in 1875 is available to view online. The marriage was between Emily Jane Smith and Edward Cox and took place in the September Quarter of 1875 at Canterbury. Unfortunately I don't know which church it took place at.

Does anyone know if the registers for any Canterbury churches are available to view online for this period? I am looking to view the original image rather than a transcript.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Hicks or Wicks?

Can anyone here make out what the bride's surname is in this Kent marriage from 1610. The groom is John Bing and her first name is Jone. I can't decide if her surname is "Wicks" or "Hicks", or even "Nicks". Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Can anyone here make out what the surname of the bride [Mary Ann] in this parish register extract is? The groom is Samuel Durnford Ryall but I can't make out her surname.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Charlotte Scott [Gray] [2nd marriage?]

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help here.

The attached image shows my relative Charlotte Francis Scott [nee Gray] in the 1939 Register. What is puzzling me is what is written above it. This usually indicates a later marriage and shows that the register was amended at a later date. What puzzles me is that as far as we know Charlotte was only married once and I can't find any record of a second marriage under her name of "Scott".

The entry [written in blue] looks like either Berrett or Bennett [maybe Bekkett] but I may be wrong.

London and Middlesex / Presbytarian Mystery

I wonder if anyone here can shed some light on a mystery I have recently uncovered surrounding the family of my great grandmother Mary Ann Gray.

I know when and exactly where Mary Ann was born as I have her birth certificate. I also have her on the census in all the years prior to her marriage. As well as this I have the dates of birth for her and all her siblings taken from a family bible.

Until now I had not found any christenings for any of them which I always thought odd. Also there has always been mention of a link to Scotland. My nan used to say the Grays came from Scotland but Mary Ann and her siblings were born in Lambeth so that seemed to poo poo that theory.

However, I have now found Mary Ann, all her siblings, and also their father William Thomas Pearce baptised at the Camden Road Presbytarian Church much later than I expected. William was baptised there on 21 March 1886 as an adult and five of his children were done on exactly the same day.

Mary Ann was baptised in April 1891 the year after her birth [1890].

On Ancestry [where I found these] the records are listed as being the "United Reform Church" but on the top of the register pages it says "Camden Road Presbytarian Church". I don't know if they are the same.

As far as I know the Presbytarian church is Scottish so could the theory about a link to Scotland be correct?

Can anyone say why all the children and their father were baptised on the same day? Were mass baptisms a thing for the Presbytrian church?

London and Middlesex / Long shot with the Donovans

Hi all

I am hoping someone may be able to help me track down christenings for three people or possibly locate them in the 1939 Register.

The first person is Edward Richard Donovan who was born in St George in the East and was the youngest son of Florence Donovan and Emma Esther Murray.

Although I have him on the 1901 census I can't find him beyond there and I also can't find a burial or death for him.

I'd love to know what happened to him so hope someone can help.

I have christenings for the following people but have been unable to find either of them in the 1939 Register:

William John Donovan born 15 November 1885 Wapping

George Henry Donovan born 26 October 1886 St George in the East

Can anyone help with these people?
