Wayfare stranger,  they owned a farm in Bushmills, eggs milk etc was sold locally, it wasnt a shop exactly, it was simply selling produce from the farm, you should be able to find records of the farm, but the shop was simply something which the locals used. Most farms have that. my cousins are still in that area, descended from Robert and William (both deceased)  they will likely know more than me, if you try searching for the name Glass locally.

Your cousins are descended from Robert and William, but how are Robert and William related to Alexander Glass and Rose Kinnaird? The Glass family tree I have been working on has more than one Robert and William in it.
How did you hear Rose’s parents were John Rose and Margaret Kinnaird? Is it family information that was passed down, or another source?
I have spoken to a couple Glass' in Bushmills and the ones that I have spoke to did not have, or know of, any ancestors named Alexander Glass and Rose Kinnaird. Who of Alexander and Rose’ children would the Glass descendants that you know be related to?
Could you pass my email (sent in a private message to you) on to your cousins if you feel they might be able to answer my questions better?

Canada / Lavoie/Lavoy family

I am looking for birth and death records for Etienne Lavoie and I have had no luck finding either.
I've been at a brick wall for quite some time now. I figured I would ask on here in case anyone has more information.

He was supposedly born in Quebec around 1817-1818  according to the 1871,1881, 1891 and 1901 Census of Canada.
There was a family rumour that he was born in France and came to Canada as a stow-away, although I have found no evidence of this and the 1871-1901 Censuses of Canada points to Quebec as his birthplace. I have not found a 1841 or 1851 census with him or his wife.
I have seen many variations in the spelling of his name: Etienne Lavoie, Etienne Lavoy, Achan Levoy, Achan Lavoy, Eakin Leavoy, and Achan Leavoy.

There is a marriage record which I think is Etienne/Achan and Mary Ann but am not 100% as the spelling is odd. It lists a marriage between Achan Savwah and Mary Anne McKay 27 Oct 1840 in Fitzroy, Ontario. It looks like it says Onslow for Residence, which is in Pontiac Quebec. Under the heading license and banns it says "Publication".
On Ancestry there is a notation that states:
Achan Lavoy (Lavoie) rather than Achan Savwah
Correction due to an error in transcription.

Etienne Lavoie supposedly died in 1902 but I have not been able to find a death record.


I am also in search of a birth record for his wife Mary Ann Mackay/Mackey. I have been unable to find one for her so far.
She was supposedly born in around 1819-1820 in Ontario according to the 1871, 1881, 1891, and 1901  Census of Canada.
On the 1891 Canada census it states her father’s birthplace as Ireland and her mother’s birthplace as Quebec.
She died Nov 23 1905. Her death record states she was born in Pontiac Quebec. around 1818.

Any help is appreciated.

Update:  Gladstone Place is on 'Google Street' - I'd imagine Don Street is the same.  Type in the address. then use the person icon at the left side of the screen - and hey presto you're in the street looking at the house.....

Annie Lownie (who married Andrew Steele) is my 3x great aunt.
Their daughter Alice Steele married Vincenzo Neri on the 12 May, 1930 at St Marys Cathedral, Huntly St. Aberdeen.
Alice Steele Neri died in 1972 in Aberdeen and Vincenzo died in 1985 in Aberdeen.

My Barclay ancestors also lived on Bridge st. Do you know who the father of your James Barclay (married to Janet Peebles) was?
My 3x great grandparents were William Barclay and Margarat Coock. They were married in Kilbirnie in 1835. William Barclay was also a weaver, as was his father before him, John Barclay.
Margaret died in 1846 and William in 1868
William and Margaret had 4 children (that I know of). Janet, John, William and Mary. Their son William died at age 4. John was married 3x and died in 1890. I do not know what became of Janet and Mary.
